Re: From Dualcopter to QUAD...
IT FLIES...IT FLIES... To prove a point, I was asked to show a couple of shots from the maiden flight of MY 450 quadcopter...built by Derek, though I did buy the frame and most of the components. Wow, me. I'm sure Derek will elaborate more on this success as he was a bit speechless at how well it al...

Re: 450 quad motors won't go full throttle
To clarify...these "little paratroopers" have a six foot hand-made parachute. LOL As I am the worst pilot I know with planes, I really should not be at the controls of the bomber we made several years ago for dropping them. I don't do too bad at line of sight quad flying.

Re: 1/6th scale vintage Sea Scout boat
Thanks, guys.
pvolcko...a skier is actually in the works...every since I finished my larger Sea Maid boat. Just not enough hours in a day...even being retired. LOL I did pick up a suitable 1/6th scale "tube" to pull behind a boat that I hope to try yet this year.

Re: 1/6th scale vintage Sea Scout boat
I can't believe it took me until half way through July to make my first outing of the year to a local pond. But here it is again. As I was again alone, the best I could do was place the camera on a tripod and try to stay in frame.

Drop Mechanism Completed I just finished and mounted the drop mechanism for this build to carry parachutes and foam bombs for release. 08-Drop Mechanism.jpg 09-Drop Mechanism.jpg 10-Drop Mechanism.jpg The plan is to use a simple tether with a snap swivel on one end and a safety pin on the other to a...

From Dualcopter to QUAD...
Due to some issues in communication, the dualcopter Derek was building…and I was financing…has been put on hold because of WAY too much frustration. Remember this? 00-dualcopter.jpg So I suggested a “simple” quad to take its place for the time being in hopes of getting into the air with my 1/6th sca...

Thanks Dog & Derek. It was a lot of fun yet challenging to build...and finish.
As it is NOW done...
...I posted the maiden voyage in my member's log if you are interested.

1/6th scale vintage Sea Scout boat
I couldn't wait any longer so my wife and I took my recently completed scratch built vintage Sea Scout boat (from the same era as my Sea Maid...1940's -1050's as I understand...maybe earlier) out for the maiden voyage at our local pond. All-in-all it went rather well considering the wind blowing str...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
Paul...thanks. As it is, I put the smallest prop I have on it and have the throttle cut back to 75% to start with and still fear it will go WAY faster than it's top scale speed. We will find out soon as you can see we are VERY near completion. The bottom is painted with two coats now. Here it is wit...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
At a final weight of 8 pounds, 11 ounces, with a 5000mAh, 3 cell battery, it was time to mark the waterline. Luckily, we recently bought a budget wheelbarrow to mix some cement in and it worked well for this. Yes, it leaked...but slowly.

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
As the cooling fans arrived the other day I have been able to move forward on this build. Once I had the fans in hand I could finalize their locations and mounting requirements which allowed me to also finalize the location for the receiver and speed controller. The 30mm fan located in the upper lef...

Re: Derek's ZMR250 Build
For me, it is a matter of spending time with my son. When I bought my first plane...Derek was flying more planes...and helicopters. I could justify the $140.00 for a Delta Ray and buying one of Derek's old transmitters but not the funds for a copter. I am more of a "realist" flier. I'm not...

looking to get in the game...
Long story...as short as I can...I'd like to get into the FPV multirotor world just to be in the air and out there with Derek and his buds. My Delta Ray plane just doesn't fit in but I still give them something to look out for. LOL The hiccup is...funds...and drive. I cannot justify the funds Derek ...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
As I am waiting on parts...from China...off ebay...I'm at a bit of a standstill on my boat since I just finished the stuffing tube brace. It consists of three parts. A rectangular base plate with three holes for the three #2 wood screws, the pie shaped sorta triangle and two tubes, one inside the ot...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
I've had a pretty good day today as I finished the wind screen and started the painting of the deck. Starting with the wind screen... So far my wind screens are made from 1/16th thick clear plastic sheet (window replacement material), 1/16” brass hobby “U” channel and a lot of patience, solder and c...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
The inner cockpit were installed a few days ago. It is Always interesting bending 1/32" plywood around these curves and getting them adequately clamped until the glue sets up. 00-cockpit001.jpg 00-cockpit002.jpg Once the cockpit was properly sealed I could fabricate a bench seat and this gave t...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
Update...a lot has gotten done in the last week or so. Two layers of fiberglass has been applied to the hull with a third layer applied to the bow as there are SO many surfaces coming together there. It has been sanded and primed as well as a base coat of white paint applied to the fiberglass surfac...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
Well, the weather is holding so I got TWO layers of fiberglass laid onto the bottom of the Sea Scout. Once it is well cured I'll trim down the excess and sand it even with the sides. 01-bottom-fiber.jpg 02-bottom-fiber.jpg The RED you see under the cloth is some spotting putty I added to reduce a fe...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
A lot can happen overnight. I managed to get the deck glued on last night and sanded the rough edges down this morning. As you can see, I am not as concerned about the filled screw holes on the sides as I was on my Sea Maid boat as I plan to apply fiberglass to the bottom and sides...and possibly th...

Re: Sea Scout joins the Sea Maid...
Well, it's been a while since the last update. I blame that mostly on waiting on my local hobby shop to get in the needed 1/32" plywood for the deck. It still is NOT here but I found it at our local lumberyard cheaper than the hobby shop. And they have plenty. So I am again moving forward. As y...
