Re: New Wing Being Built - So Far Unnamed lol

Thanks Graham! The wing is 50" wide and weighs 8.6lbs (with two 6S 3700mah packs). I did a full throttle watt/amp test yesterday with a 13x7 APC prop and only got 988 watts at 48 amps using an NTM PropDrive 5050 500kv motor. Although that motor would probably push the wing and make it flyable, ...

Re: New Wing Being Built - So Far Unnamed lol

In the following pic, I had glued the layers together and I had cut some scrap foam that would be later sanded into shape for the final nose shape. I added a pop can for size reference 20201001_135456.jpg In the next pic, the glue had cured and I sanded the foam at the nose into the final shape. Loo...

New Wing Being Built - So Far Unnamed lol

I was looking through my parts bin, a while back. WOW! I have LOTS of spare parts. Some are new and some are used. I noticed that I have a rather large motor. Its an NTM Prop Drive 5050 500kv 6S capable. I have some rather large metal gear servos with 15kg of torque at 6.0v. I also have a spare FrSk...

Disappointed in Hobby King

I've been buying parts, and a few planes, from Hobby King for nearly 10 years. They have been my "go to" place for parts. I've recommended them to my friends many times. I've defended them in heated debates on social media. Unfortunately, I am quite done with HK from now on. Over the past ...

Re: Derek's Redcat Racing Shredder

Next time I take the truck out, we'll be at the park or some other place that has lots of open ground. This truck will hold two 3S 5000mah packs and my harness is parallel, so that means 3S 10,000mah of battery capacity....more like 8000mah because of the 80% rule....but, it will be interesting to see

Re: Derek's Redcat Racing Shredder

I've decided to remove the TBS 5.8ghz vtx and install a 1.3ghz vtx. A part of my ground station is a tripod that has a 1.3ghz vrx that feeds the signal to a 5.8ghz 25mw repeater. That sends the signal to my 5.8ghz Dock King and that sends the signal to my goggles and my 19" flat screen tv that ...

Re: Derek's Redcat Racing Shredder

What you saw in the video was from the goggles DVR. I'm making some changes to some settings and vtx position to see if the video clears up. The vtx is a TBS Unify Pro HV, so the video quality should be better than the first run but....it was just that....a first run. I'll make some changes and try ...

Re: Derek's Redcat Racing Shredder

and here we are, many months later...I've decided to add FPV, a Matek fc, Inav, and Crossfire to my Shredder. I gave it a decent test run today and it performed very well. I need to make a few changes to Inav and my vtx but it was an awesome first test run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5vbGJZyzb...

Re: IRCHA

IRCHA 2020 was Aug 5-9. I heard that Georges Van Ganssen couldn't be there, due to travel issues between the USA and his home area. Many other full teams weren't gonna be there. I didn't go either.

Keep an eye on Youtube though....I'm sure people will be sharing their videos from IRCHA.

Re: Big Skyvan

I just got an email notification. The new motors should be delivered today. I think we'll have to fabricate new motor mounts but the Skyvan should be ready to fly again in a few days. We have a camera mounted on top of the fuselage. I just need to remember to turn it on lol

Re: Big Skyvan

After that maiden flight and successful landing, the motors were quite hot. They weren't super hot but they were hot enough that I didn't want to keep my fingers on them for very long. We get the Skyvan back to the shop and begin researching. We probably should have done the researching during the b...

Re: Big Skyvan

Thanks man! It flew very well but we've discovered it's underpowered. We ordered new motors yesterday that should give us nearly 3 times more power. The next flight should be even better. The cool thing is that we've proven that the plane is flight-worthy!

Big Skyvan

A few months ago, my buddy came to me and asked me to help him design and build a large plane with a cargo dropper. This is what we came up with.

Yes...this issue was resolved. I don't remember exactly what went wrong. Let's just call this "operator error" lol
