Derek's Dad's Scratch Built 1/6 Scale Boat

Here is the maiden voyage of my Dad's scratch built 1/6 scale boat. You'll hear in the video that it's a bit windy and the lil pond is a bit choppy but the boat did real well and only took on minimal water from the bow spray. We were all real happy with the boat's performance.

Looking good.
Wind might make the water a bit rough but at least if it stops it will get to the side eventually. :)

Thanks guys! Dad is real happy with it. A calmer day will come and I'm sure Dad will be ready again. Although it's not very calm right now, I would almost bet that he's out with his boat right now. He brought his new batteries to me today and I charged them up for him so, like I said...I almost imagine that he's out there right now, lol.

Sorry to disappoint but...I have yet to make it back to the pond. I did manage to rework the battery holders for the smaller Lipo packs. Another hang up...aside from the weather that is mostly raining day after day after day...is transport when it is just my wife and I going out. Hence, the transport box shown below was just finished today(started yesterday.) It is felt padded with a Velcro strap across the boat.

At least now the boat will be safe getting to the pond and only take one hand to easily carry. I have to go and check out the other pond in this park as it seems to be calmer than the other due to location and hills around it. I have to find out just how muddy we(my wife and I) may get. She may not be amused. Wish us luck. And there seems to always be the duck/goose poop to deal with.

Great box, Dad! Looks good!

Yeah, this seemingly non-stop rain/storms has really put a damper on being outside much. When you get a minute, Dad...can you post a list of the components that are in the boat?

Nice box D's dad... Doesn't rain/water go with boats.... Lol, I wouldn't have thought rain would effect a boat too much... Maybe that barbies hair will get wet, we know what women are like with hair...lol

HEY!!! We had one day in a row without rain. Radio control is NOT my wife's thing at all but she supports my efforts and loves to see Derek and I hang out. But Derek still has to work for a living so my wife and I took off to the park with fresh batteries and my Snapper race boat. Now the batteries are about half the size and weight of the two I borrowed from Derek for the maiden run. Also they were moved from the aft to just in front of the pilot(one on the outside of each of her legs actually). This is where the low voltage alarm is also. I set the duel rates back to 50% on the throttle for this run and only hooked up one of the two batteries just to see if I could get the alarm to go off as this thing drew next to nothing from Derek's batteries. I got a GOOD 10 minute run, roughly...as I failed to time it...out of the one battery. Watching it run on rather calm waters, I feel I really need to add a spray rail from the bow to at least 1/3 of the length. But it still looks great and runs even better. Next time I will be on both batteries and bump the D/R up to at least 75%.
Enjoy this short video my wife shot and I will process the 131 pictures she also took. She is doing better with every outing.

OK then. Here's a slide show of the pictures my wife took today of our outing. I'm impressed. If these cycle too fast please let me know.

We had another GORGEOUS day here in Indiana. An overcast sky but little chance of rain, 72 degrees and next to no wind. My wife and I loaded up my Snapper to try out the third pond in the park we like. The water was as smooth as glass...until I started running. I think I may need to get a second set of batteries at this rate. This run was at 50% max throttle. We had an issue with the camera when I went to 75% so hopefully the next time we'll get some good video at 75% and 100%. For now enjoy our efforts.

Tony...don't think the thought didn't occur to me. For the inevitable (if I live long enough) one that "sinks". Though it would be cheaper (for me) to simply build a bathysphere ( with lights, a camera and RC claw-arm ) and have Derek lower it into the pond where she went down with a helicopter. No? These ponds are deeper than I can wade through. And I am not much of a swimmer.
