I've gone a purchased a nitro off road buggy.
I saw it a a great price as it was the display model and thought it would be something that I can do with the kids this summer. I've secretly fancied a go at nitro for a while.

So far I have run the engine in.

I did this by running it at idle for 2 tanks with the wheels off the ground. Then 1 tank doing figure 8's blipping the throttle to 1/4, 1 tank same as but 1/2 throttle and a last tank at 3/4 throttle with a few full throttle blips here and there. It seems to be running sweet.

I'm hoping to get out tomorrow for some tuning. I'll charge the camera and shoot some video if I get out

Sweet Dan.
My friend has an HPI 1/5 scale Baja Gasser.
Great fun, but need more cars to race with.

I had the trophy out again over the weekend and have started to get my head around the nitro tuning it took me about a tank to get it tuned, and this thing is fast.

The only downside to this model is the pull start, after Saturdays session I had some lovely blisters between my fingers which isn't good as the environment I work in has a very high salt content (ouch!!). To remedy this I've ordered a 12v starter box, this starter box is supposed to be powered by a small 12v motorbike battery. But I'm going to power if from a couple of 3s lipos in parallel. It also has an 1.4v output for a wired glow starter, which I've purchased with the box.

I've got some video to post of the car in action but iv not had chance to upload it yet, I'm hoping to do that in the next day or so.

That sucks about the blisters but it's cool that you got the car out for some play. I'd like to have something like that.

It's great fun Derek the smell the sound I think I'm in love with nitro.

I went to a local hobby shop today and picked up an upgrade clutch kit and the the tools to change it.

I replaced the clutch and fly wheel last night. It didn't really take that long.

The new clutch pads came with 3 different strength springs, I opted for the silver (medium) ones.

I had to nip out at this point and forgot to take any more pictures of the process. After the last image I removed the bearings from the clutch bell and washed the clutch shoes flywheel and bell in clutch and brake cleaner before replacing the cluch bell over the shoes and re-fitted the engine.
I'm just waiting for the weather now to have a test run.
