Just a couple project planes (trying to go faster)

My flying buddy (Darin) and I are messing with some plane designs to reach higher speeds! Our goal is 80mph but we want to do it with foam-board planes. We started with the rear motor shuttle jets. I built the blue and maroon one with a armin wing and a large motor with a low kv but it can swing a big prop. It was just to get a feel for the planes tendency in the air and if was stable enough for me to fly. It is a nice and stable plane and with a 9x5 cheap prop it performed average. Then I put a quality APC 9x6 prop on it and It came to life massive power and pulls vertical no problem. The general consensus by the guys watching is about 40 to 45 mph.

Not to shabby but I need a data logger to be sure.
Then I built the white shuttle jet.

I reduced the fuselage size by over an inch vertically and horizontally, made it a KFM4 air foil and used a 2200kv motor with a 6x4 prop. This thing is fast maybe 50+ mph but I think it weighs too much. I like how it flies but it is not going to cut it for our goal of 80 MPH!
My buddy Darin has built his jet and is using a mega jet motor from grayson hobbies he has a maiden run on it but did not try a speed run, he was too nervous! He is like that! :)
I have now designed my own plane for the speed run. The Velocious!
I fired up the pc and opened paint and designed a fast looking plane. 30 inch wing span, 7 inch chord, 22' fuselage, aileron and elevator no rudder bank and yank, 2826 2200Kv motor 5.5 x 5.5 prop 40 amp esc all up weight 14.7 oz.

I did not take a lot of build pictures, sorry I just get too involved in the build and forget!
This is my template Pardon the picture color.

Here is the parts coming together.

The motor is completely covered to get a better air flow over the nose, I remove the paper from the back side of the foam board to make the curve around the nose.

I added the spinner to help with the air flow and added some "decals" and marking patterns and she is ready for the maiden.

Here is a video of the Velocious the 1st half of the video is with a 5.5x5.5 prop the second half is a 6x4 prop the next day. You will see why!
I am doing all the flying my buddy Darin launches it the first time. This is not the maiden many things went wrong on that including my camera just recording black. This is the 3rd and 4th flights, I am still working out the throws and expo, I have the ailerons dialed in but the elevator is still aggressive at 40% throw and 70% expo. I added landing gear only to save prop from damage. To my surprise it works great on take off. I am happy with this plane, it is the fastest thing I have ever flown.

Thanks guys! I am really enjoying this plane :) Needs more speed ? 4s battery? hum? Might be looking to up size this one 40 or 50 inch wing span 6s battery set up? Amazingly this plane will fly fairly slowly and cruises easy at 1/4 throttle and has a nice glide to it.

Sounds like my kind of plane, slow cruiser...lol
