My scratch build Bomber

Post by west0618 »

Derek and I have been working on building a plane for me to learn "how to fly" and have a functioning bomb dropper. I have a 12" action figure and a 72" diameter home made parachute. We are nearly done with the build of the plane. Just need to attach the bomb dropper door, double check all the servos are centered, add a battery hatch to the nose, set the travel for the steerable nose gear, and double check the cg with and without the action figure. Here's what we have:

This plane had been a fun build for both of us. It's turned out real well! Just need to finish it up and then get some training flights with my Hobbyzone Delta Ray...maybe a few more visits to my SIM and then we'll get this plane in the air. The ultimate goal, besides the functioning bomb dropper, is to have us both in the air at the same time. I could fly my Blue Cub while Dad flies his plane. To cool!!!

That is a nice build!
I am seeing some Experimental Airlines influence on that one!
I wish my dad was still around (passed away 10 years ago) he would have loved to build and fly with foam board. He used to build free flight and control line planes when I was about 2 years old but it cost to much with a family for him to keep doing it and he never picked it back up.
I hope you and Derek have a great time flying together!
"No Thanks, I don't need another plane!" Said no one ever!

This plane was modeled after the EA Donkey...with minor alterations. Dad came to me and said he wanted a plane that would stop his action figure and parachute. I immediately thought of the Donkey. I showed the EA video to my Dad and he agreed that this was the plane he wanted.

Hey there Derek. Enjoy your time with your father. I agree with vipertech13, i wish my dad was around also to have the chance to enjoy this hobby with him. Make the best of it Derek and keep on building and flying. Oh! Don't forget the pics and videos.

Here's a shot of the parachute and figure in action from last fall when my wife and I launched her about 80 feet into the air with a water powered rocket(pictured below). I can't wait to see this 6 foot parachute in the air again...with a bit better control on deployment.

ha ha ha....Dad has gotten the chute to fold up pretty tight. The bomb dropper capacity is roughly 4"x4"x12" and I believe that Dad said the chute and 12" action figure fit very well.

ha ha ha....yeah....a 72" homemade parachute is "serious" overkill for a 250 mini quad, ha ha ha ha. Maybe you could find something, or make a parachute that is around 7.2". At least that would help to slow the fall, lol. Just remember to start your timer, lol.

Truer words have never been spoken, Tony! I'm just happy that you've been steering clear of the water-type landing surfaces. They just don't work, lol

Well, I've not been daring enough to test out landing a helicopter or quad on water. There is just something, deep down inside me, that says, "It's just not a good idea", lol
