Post by danhampson »

I'm hoping thesc will work a treat on 7" 4s and will more than likely run fine on 5s but I have a feeling it might be a bit much, it's a very small quad to be running 7" props, in fact its more or less all prop lol.

I'm still unsure about the esc's I may go for the afro 30's. What esc's have you been looking at Derek?

I have these esc's on my Dart 250 right now:

http://www.buddyrc.com/velotech-magic-m ... ogram.html

So far, they've been coming down only "slightly" warm after a long flight. I'm looking at the 30amp esc's for my custom quad.

I think the prices are fair and the reviews are positive.

I need to read some more on that blheli. I don't know anything about it but I hear a lot of people talking about it.

I've also been staying away from the Afro esc's because I hear many cases where those esc's don't really get along with high pole count motors. Have you had much experience like that?

That's just with the Simon k firmware they are fine with blheli and it enables oneshot, I can't recommend it enough. I've flow the same quad with and without and the difference is night and day mate, I think a lot of my progression is due to my quad handling so well it gives you the confidence to push.

its still a mini quad at 326mm. its for proximity, fast and low, and acro its got a tiny foot print and very large disc area theres nothing out there thats under 360mm and runs 7" props.

the frame is able too accommodate large packs without loosing that mini quad agility, below 2650mah 6s

Thanks guys.

This week has been slow i've had a busy week with work, kid's and life in general. But have made some decisions about the build and ordered some equipment that should make the build easier.

Ive checked the clearances of 7" props

The frame has come in at 326mm as per the drawing. Ive also put a matte finish on the motor mounts to match the rest of the frame.

Part of the initial concept was to have the ESC's installed in the arms but because im goining to go with larger 30amp esc's i want to run the motor/esc cables through the carbon arms there is no way i would be able to do this by hand (with any accuracy) so ive ordered these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391063678308? ... EBIDX%3AIT

the plan is to bore a 7mm hole (that gives 0.5mm clearance from the inside motor mount clamp) here at each motor mount.
20150503_124755.jpg
20150503_124755.jpg (1.4 MiB) Viewed 2110 times
and the the cables will exit here.
20150503_124807.jpg
20150503_124807.jpg (1.35 MiB) Viewed 2110 times
Ive also been looking at a hole pattern on the base plate and also installed a mock FC
20150503_124820.jpg
20150503_124820.jpg (1.83 MiB) Viewed 2110 times
all the holes in the base plate are 3mm ot accommodate 2mm cable ties

The last 2 shots are with the correct standoffs installed but temporary hardware.

ive just ordered the first piece of electronics for this homemade quad, an frsky delta 8. Ive read good things about this receiver and it does cppm so just one cable from the receiver to the FC and no need for an inverter cable (unlike sbus).
