New Woody Quad

I decided rather than attach my new gimbal to my alien quad, which has had vibration issues since I built it, I would build another woody.
It's quite big at around 550 diagonal and almost square and will run 9 or 10 inch props on 1100 kv motors.

Motors, ESCs, FC and gimbal mount fitted.
With the motor fitment, I decided my usual zip ties just weren't up to the task.

All ready for maiden when the weather allows.
Gimbal works well, I will set up a Tx control for pitch once I know it flies ok.

No where near as quick as Lee's 250 production line. :)

Started Saturday morning with a basic plan in my head and just made the rest up as I went along.
Test hover Sunday night in the lounge.
Many interruptions in between.
The gimbal is actually set up sideways, it is easier to balance the Mobius that way.
It is designed for a Gopro which is a bit bigger and heavier.
I just have to remember that pitch is roll and roll is pitch in the GUI.
Now I am at work and the sun is shining with almost zero wind.
Perfect maiden weather, I hope it's still this way when I get home.

Maiden flight last night, flew well for a short time but I have discovered my 4s 5000 batteries are toast.
As soon as I put it in the air the low voltage alarm starts beeping.
First flight the gimbal had a few vibes which I managed to tune out.
Had another flight tonight and have a bit of jello in the mobius.
I guess some prop balancing is in order, I am running 10" but I think I will switch to 9 and balance them.
I am impressed with the smoothness of the videos though, if you ignore the jello.
I will upload them when I have done some editing.
Now I need some more batteries, however I do have access to one I can borrow for a short while.

Ok sorry guys, still no vids, but what I did do was haul the batteries out of my RC truck.
It has 2x 2s 4200 40-60c.
They are now taped together to make a 4s.
I have a flight pack, woohoo!!
These are far from new but hopefully I will be able to some air time with them until I can afford some new 4s packs.

I also decided I wanted to try some 9" props on it.
I dug through my prop box and all I could find was 6x 9047 and 1x 9047r.
There was another 9047r with a white mark at the hub so there was no way I was gonna use that.
Solution was simple.
I have several 1045 and 1045r.
I built up a jig with my rotary tool attached and now they are 9045 bullnose. :)
Something like this, but I used plywood.
Just a bit of balancing and I'll be good to go.

I finally got around to editing some on board video shot with the mobius on my cheap Banggood gimbal.
I have to say, apart from the jello, I am very happy with the resulting gimbal stabilised video.
Being winter here I got these flights in the few weather breaks we have had.
I will post more once I have balanced the props and mounted the FPV cam.
The quad itself still needs some tuning but that will be easier once I am flying FPV.
I will also be adding my OSD to this setup.

Be even better once I take the junk Turnigy motors off and put my Sunnyskys on.
This machine was more an experiment to see how well the cheap gimbal would stabilise the video.
With some better motors and balanced props it should be even better.

I tried balancing the props off the quad then rebalancing using the cleanflight GUI and could not get rid of the vibes.
I fitted 2 of the Sunnyskys complete with props that I took off one of my other quads last night and saw an instant improvement.
Sounded much better too, none of that angry sound as the props get up to speed.

Great stuff, it's good to read you guys are having fun with ya quads and experimenting with different gear on them.... It's all gone way out of my league which is why I'm not bothering so much, can't keep up with you all..

The only person you need to keep up with Tony is yourself.
Keep flying and keep trying.
I look back at some of my older videos sometimes when I think that I am not going forward and realise just how far I have come.
As long as you enjoy doing what you are doing, who really cares what everyone else is up to.
We all learn at our own pace and as funds allow. :)
