This happened in my friends house today.
Lucky he was in the next room, and heard a pop as it exploded.
Another reason to be very careful with batteries.

Man he's lucky. What cause it? Old battery, overcharged , battery still warm when charging? Just curious so maybe it wont happen to someone else.

He was charging the battery at the time.

Re: Very lucky escape
Wow! Very lucky! What did he do when he got to the scene? Put it out? Let it burn out? Carry the burning equipment outside? What brand battery? What size battery? Voltage?
Glad to see the house didn't catch fire.

Re: Very lucky escape
Found out what happened.
He accidentally plugged a 2S and 3S pack in to charge at the same time.
Burnt the back of his FPV ground station too, but still works.
He had more bad followed by good luck yesterday.
He was flying his FPV powered glider.
I had my googles on for the ride
All of a sudden signal cut. Neither of us or the people around saw were it was.
So that was it. 1000 euros of glider and FPV gear disappeared.
This was on a remote part of the beach and he was over the water at the time he lost signal.
We feared the worst, but four of us wondered off down the beach to try and find it.
We had all but given up, when some one spotted it in the long grass at the back of the beach. This was around 1km from where we were.
And heres the good luck part.... It was completely unscathed Not even a scratch.
What a lucky escape.
I have the video on my wasapp in my phone, if I can work out how to post it, i will.

Re: Very lucky escape
Lol.. That's was great luck. I saw a pack burn for the first time yesterday. Buddy of mine has a Gobby 630.. Recently repaired from a crash and was spooling it up for the first time since that crash.. Canopy was not on (luckily).. As it was spooling up she went crazy and tip'd... Ejected the 6s pack out of the shrink wrap of a 12s stick with fire blowing out the side.... The other half of the pack was still in the bird luckily.. Come to find out he never check the correction direction on the gyro.. It never left the ground.. & the half of the pack went about 4-5ft out into field... Watched the pack burn for about 5 minutes. It's crazy!

Re: Very lucky escape
Well, it's good to hear it did not spontaneously catch fire then. Too bad about the interior of the house though.
Re: Very lucky escape
That glider must have had a graceful glide path then. I guess that's lucky.
