How to enclose a deep cycle lead acid battery

Okay I did something stupid and something awesome at the same time. The stupid I spent yet more money. The smart thing is I spent it on a lead acid deep cycle marine battery. After thinking about it long and hard I decided that $75 USD was better than $500 USD. Now I have a battery for running my PL6. I now can go to a field solo and fly more than 4 packs before returning home to charge again.

Now I am getting ready to order some more stuff from progressive rc that will allow me to use my PL6 with the battery and few other goodies. Before I order I ould like to know where can I find a decent battery box. I got this battery http://www.exide.com/us/en/product-solu ... rpose.aspx . I would ike to keep it in a box just in case something happens. I will use it with out but what if acid leaks out. Anyhow if anyone knows of a good box with external hook ups let me know. I maybe getting a second to run in series.

I have been contemplating getting a deep cycle battery for field use, for ages.
Never pushed the button though.
For one thing, they are hard to find around here.
What I can find are extremely expensive.
True deep cycle battery, needs a special charger. (I guess a combo battery like yours doesn't)
I would want two, to run 24V, so even more expensive.

I'm sure one day i'll find a cheap supply somewhere, and finally do my field charging set up.
Like you, I would love to have the ability to fly charge fly, without having to drive home inbetween.

Let me know how you get on with it.

Well one thing that drove me is the the PL6. It can charge the battery at home. I also would love a 24V system just in case but in reality i need a 12v system. I just want to be able to push he pl6 and not worry. I would rather have the pl6 struggle than than the battery.

Looking at power systems you have to really look at what you need vs what you want.

I don't know anything about to deep cycle bats... But I can suggest a cheap geni... Got a buddy at our field who uses this.. http://m.harborfreight.com/engines-gene ... 60338.html ... For a $125... He'll post up at the field ALL day long. Now I would suggest a different geni if u were to spin larger 6s packs... But for 3s, this is perfect!

You probably want to go with plastic if acid leakage is a concern. Something like:

Personally, I'd probably build a dolly/cart that holds the battery in the bottom (with enough space for a second, either to parallel or series connect them) and then has a rack/tray for the charger and space to place the charging lipo packs. I saw a picture of one that opened up like a tackle box and had packs popping out like a christmas tree. Very cool.
