Considering Going With Bluetooth

Post by Derek »

I'm not a very technologically advanced rc'er but I'm learning. Recently I bought a new cell phone because my previous phone was absolute crap (long story). The new cell service provider told me that I could get one of their 7" tablets for a mere $10 with the phone. I agreed. I didn't notice until just about 15 minutes ago that the tablet has Bluetooth. This got me thinking....perhaps I should look into getting the Bluetooth stuff for the Ikon on my helicopter and my mini quad with the Naze32.

I believe it was Graham that talked highly about the Bluetooth with the Naze32. I'll hunt around for a supplier that has the Bluetooth for the Naze32. I believe that HeliDirect sells the Bluetooth adapter for the Ikon. I'll surely be back to ask questions about getting it setup.

Also...on those humid days, my finger tips don't slide very well on the screen of cell phones and tablets. Can I get one of those pen-type things, I forget what they are called? Would it make a difference which one I get?

Its defiantly a plus to have. More convenient, less crap at the field or should I say less invasive crap at the field. Battery life will be longer and a lot less weight.

Now that I have this tablet, I can clearly understand the convenience.

One thing to watch for Derek is when and if you plug the Naze into a computer if the bluetooth is connected as well Cleanflight crashes, so you need to disconnect it:)

I put the + - in to the spare ESC plug on the Naze and the two single wires on the centre of the Naze board marked in the manual as TX Rx.

I can post pictures if you dont get it:)

lol, I'm such an idiot! I was trying to download the EZ-GUI to my laptop. The laptop doesn't have Bluetooth. I needed the EZ-GUI on my tablet. I searched for it in the Play Store and "poof there is was. Clicked on it and now I have it on my Tablet.

Now...will the EZ-GUI take the place of Cleanflight on my laptop or do I still need Cleanflight installed on the tablet?

I was just looking at a local supplier that i've grown fond of. I found a Bluetooth Module and I just wanted to share the link with you guys so that you can tell me if this is the same as what Graham showed me earlier. Here's the link:

http://www.multirotorsuperstore.com/acc ... odule.html

Is this the correct module for the Naze32? If so, I'm ready to order some new props and I would get the module, as well.

Thanks guys!

You need to seperate the wires from the connector supplied:)
Use the esc spare on the Naze for black and red + -.
You are left with green and yellow. Look on the bluetooth board it may say "TX RX" . On the Naze if you look in the manual it tells you what pin is what. I used single pin connectors on mine for this and a standard servo connector for the red/black:)

Ok, just so that I am clear on what you are saying...the module will come with a red, black, green, and yellow. Separate the 4 wires from the connector. The black and red wires will connect to one of the two (out of the six) pin sets for the esc's. Then the Naze manual will tell me where to connect the green and yellow pins.

Is that about right?

OK, I have my Bluetooth Module here. According to what I saw on the video from Painless360, on Youtube, I need an FTDI Adapter to set up the Bluetooth Module. Do I really need that? I'd have no problem buying one if I need it. I saw that HK has the adapter listed but it's on backorder.

Any suggestions on what my next move should be? Should I order the adapter or can I go ahead and install the module?

another question...this one may be plain and simple but I wanted to double check...

I just installed the rx and tx pins to the Naze32 board (and the soldering was probably my cleanest yet, lol) Anyway...Graham told me to refer to the manual to see where the rx and tx leads go to on the board. In the manual, it shows the pins are opposite of what I have on the board. See the following illustration:
full_naze32_blue.jpg
full_naze32_blue.jpg (86.13 KiB) Viewed 6677 times
I imagine that I should go off of what I see on the board instead of the printed manual, yes?
