So, what modes should I have enabled (in Cleanflight) for my Naze32 as a beginner learning to fly my first FPV quad (ZMR250)? I'm guessing there are two schools of thought:
1. all modes off and learn to control the quad using Rate control inputs, or,
2. start with max assistance such as Angle, Horizon, Baron, Mag and ever Expo control inputs
Any help appreciated!

Start off with angle mode only, you could include a some expo on your aileron/elevator stick.
You have to remember you are learning two things here, FPV and quad flight.
The easier you can make it on your self the better.
Don't try to hover, pick something in the distance and SLOWLY head towards it.
Start in a big open field with no distractions.
Have you tried the FPV gear on a car or truck yet?

Re: Learning to fly FPV quad
There are two things that Stambo mentioned that I absolutely agree with.
1. Possibly start with FPV on a ground vehicle, if possible. I did that and it was a great asset because I was able to get accustomed to what I was going to be seeing and it helped me know how the goggles would feel on my face (unless you are using a video monitor, lol)
2. Don't try to hover FPV, in the beginning. Holy crap! I can remember trying to do this and it was a nightmare. Then, these guys at the Hangout told me to not try to hover. Simply try to fly from one point to another and back. It helped a lot.
If you can find a field that has soft plush (but not real tall) grass, that will help, too.

A football field is a great place to practice.
You can follow the lines on the pitch, and very unlikely to lose it.

Thanks for the helpful advice guys, just what I was looking for. I haven't put my FPV gear on an RC car yet but will certainly try that first.

Re: Learning to fly FPV quad
it certainly doesn't have to be an expensive car (unless you already have one) and it doesn't have to be a fast car (unless you already have one, lol). If you don't have an rc ground vehicle, just something that you can use rubber bands and or Velcro to attach the video transmitter and fpv camera to will be great for some practice runs. Then just find an open parking lot (or "carpark" as it's said in the UK, I believe, lol) and run some laps. Even that type of fpv is an amazing experience.

Re: Learning to fly FPV quad
Totally agree with what Derek said, a $30 toy will work if you don't already have something.
Just remember that what you see from a ground vehicle will be quite bumpy compared to what you will see in the air.
(Unless it's some really flash truck with awesome suspension)
