Furious True D

On Saturday the Immersion 5800 Duo V3 receiver that I have on my ground station died.
I looked around and decided to go for a goggle mounted VRX for portability.
I do have another diversity VRX to put on my ground station but it does not have the range on the Fatshark channels that the Immersion VRX had and it uses dip switches for channel change, which is a pita.
I have ordered a True D setup, locally, a little bit more expensive than if I had bought from China but it will be here tomorrow, not in 3 weeks time.
Now I have to wait, every time I see a courier van go past I will be willing it to call in with my new "toy".
I hate waiting for stuff, I want it now.

Damn, supplier just let me know that someone beat me to the last one by about 5 minutes.
Next shipment early next week.

Sounds like a good bit of kit! It sucks that you have to wait a bit longer.

I have been keeping an eye on the various diversity RXs for the Dominators.
This is the one I was going to go for when I have some spare cash.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

I think I'll be finally upgrading from my v1 Dom's, but I'll have to wait til my b-day, in February. Definitely looking for something with diversity.

Nothing wrong with Dom V1s Derek, this will plug straight in to the module bay.
$79.95 US and you have diversity.
I think you can still get a faceplate and fan for them as well to stop them fogging up.
I tried my Predators the other day, I had forgotten how good that little fan was on my Dom V3s.

I've had my v1's for 4 years, I think, and I've never had a problem with them. They just continue to work, hence the reason why I've not upgraded. But, I was able to use my friends v3's, not long ago, and the clarity and the FOV is far more superior. I'd just like to have a better FOV.....and diversity.

I can't argue with you there, the V3s are an awesome set of goggles.
Off course there is nothing to say you couldn't get the diversity module sooner and then transfer it to the V3s later.

The true-d unit is awesome Stambo, I've had mine since the v3 came out and its only getting better as the firmware's are updated, they are also bringing out a docking station for it so it can be used on a static stand, best antenna combos I have found are,
IRC mini patch and luminier pagoda for CP setups,
and a stock whip antenna and a Menace rc bandicoot patch for linear setups on micros,
with the linear setup I was flying around the corridors of the school we fly in with very little breakup and next to no multipathing.

Thanks Kev, I did a fair bit of research before I decided on it, didn't seem like there was much between this and the Laforge, but this one had the cover and was a little cheaper (and available in NZ).
I will be running a Pagoda (free from the dealer if I was prepared to wait for his shipment to come in) and a 5 turn helical.
That docking station sounds interesting.

Found out on the weekend that my Immersion diversity receiver may not be toast after all.
I tried my other VRX and still had a pretty crappy picture, then I decided to try my (Jacobs) predators and had the same crappy reception, tried multiple VRXs and they were no different.
So I started experimenting with different channels and what do you know, I have an image again.
Going to try the Immersion again tonight and see what happens.
Still getting the True D setup though, it's too late I already ordered it, and it will be much more portable.
If the Immersion unit is still ok I will probably use it for longer range only.
I have always had an issue with glitching and dropouts in one particular area which suggests some kind of interference.
There is some construction work happening with large machinery in the area I believe it is coming from so that may be the reason for it getting worse. I think they have some equipment in the 5.8 band.
The True D has a scanner that should show me this so I know what channels to stay away from.

Well my Immersion 5800 Duo V3 lives on.
I thought it was toast due to a really bad picture but after messing around with multiple different VRXs and channels I am pretty sure I have a severe case of interference on my property.
When I finally get my True D system, I should be able to use the scanner and a directional antenna to see where it is coming from.
