That is definitely different.
What would you do with it?
I can't imagine FPV would be an option, nor aerial video, well maybe. :)

I can say that this gentlemen has to much time on his hands. Still pretty neat looking, I guess.

That's a flying stick. Just imagine the full scale pilot's drone sighting report for that one. :)

Ok guys, we need to revisit this thread. My Dad has had a curiosity and interest raised in the above video and this one, too:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI4LI4DgiOw

I believe both builds are from the same guy. However, I also believe that both builds are done with a Multi Wii flight controller. I don't know anything about Multi Wii. I barely know what I do know about my Naze 32 boards. I'm curious, would we be able to build a Thrust Vectoring Dual Copter using a flight controller, and firmware, that I'm familiar with? We'd be looking for something that would run Cleanflight. Besides the firmware familiarity being a necessary factor, cost is an important factor. There is "some" give and take with the cost. We're just not looking to spend a fortune on this.

Any thoughts???

Also, if possible, Dad would like to possibly have the ability to have GPS Hold and Altitude Hold. <-----this part is where I will definitely be of no help.

We also need to be able to fly this copter from a Spektrum DX6i

Derek, firstly, it is basically a Naze, very little difference. Secondly, i am seeing only hovering and vertical flight, not an awful lot of manoeuvring?

For a project, cool but it is probably the GPS that helps stabilise it?

Cool to see how you get on:)

I think Trump should do this to the top of one of his buildings.

"IRS?! What do they want?! They'll never catch me!" Presses the magic button on his bigly desk in his huuuuge office, a set of props burst out of the top spire and explosive bolts burst all around the top floor. It detaches and flys away to some nice non-extradition treaty country. The bottom of the craft, emblazoned in really nice gold lettering? "Powered by Scorpion"

Sorry, mind wandered a bit there.

Derek, don't have any insights for you on this one. GPS will be helpful to get it back to you after getting more than 15 ft away and losing orientation on the thing. Actually this would be a prime candidate for full auto flying mode being the norm, requiring at least a compass, gps would make it even better. Move the stick away and it moves away, regardless of orientation.

Good luck! Hope to see a build thread!

My Dad is wanting to build something very similar to this to simply lift a paratrooper figure (weight yet to be determined) and drop the paratrooper.

The only Naze board that I have are rev 5 boards (no longer available). I've heard rotten things about the rev 6 boards. Perhaps the Full Naze32 board would be suitable for Dad's purposes. In Cleanflight, where you choose the "craft" that you are flying (tricopter, quad, hex, wing, etc), what type of craft would you reckon this Dual Copter to be?

.....and I'm sure there will be a build thread if Dad does decide to go ahead with this project.

For this style of coaxial prop setup, I'd go with something like a heli setting. Or look for a modified cleanflight/betaflight build that supports this kind of setup. Not familiar enough with cleanflight and it's options to be abel to guide you much, unfortunately.

I think that will be running a custom firmware, I doubt it would be possible with any of the existing aircraft types in cleanflight.

If it does take one, hopefully it is available just like any other firmware file to be flashed onto the board. Would be no different than flashing a new version of the standard firmware.

Unfortunately with that running multiwii, it is not just a matter of loading it to a Naze32.
Baseflight (what cleanflight and betaflight are based on) is a custom version of the original multiwii code so unless someone knows how it convert it to run on a Naze, it's gonna be a problem.

With the second one it should be ok. No hold on , the Naze only needs stable and COG. If you were to reverse the motor direction and use a rotor for 3d it should work. The Naze only knows it is sending a signal? So you should be able to do this? ???

Graham, in the GUI, you can set the Naze32 (or similar flight controller) to tricopter, quadcopter, flying wing, etc, etc. I think I remember seeing bicopter. Would you think I'd set the model type to bicopter or something else?

I just looked at the GUI and there is an option for a Dual Copter and an option for a Bicopter. What would you think the difference is?
