Quad Motor Configuration

On our beloved mini quads, from motor center to motor center (all 4 motors), the configuration very much resembles a square. On this new quad that I'm considering building, the configuration is more like a rectangle. Would this be an issue or will it work ok if the flight controller is in the center, left to right and front to back?

As long as it is dead centre . You would also need bigger motors and props to help with balance and thrust. So it would need to be s scaled correctly, but it should work:)
