How is this right?
So I don't get it... We all have been involved in the new FAA regulation crap.. While claiming all the issues that have lead up to where we are now.. Airport infractions, heavily populated areas such as city parks, arenas, interstates/roadways, etc.... But damn near every night I watch the news I see footage that can only be shot via a multicopter... Now in my view they are advertising their failure to adhere to these new regulations (that are really not new.. the AMA community know better & have proven so). Publicly admitting this by airing it on TV, how are they not subject to the fines within the non-legislative regulatory rules? That's my vent for the night. By the way.. Have any of you that registered got your $5 back yet.. I'm still waiting.

They probably have a certified pilot that went to full scale flight school. Which has been around for a while now. In order to do commercial stuff you had to apply for an exemption through the faa. You have to have your full scale license to do this.

Re: How is this right?
Which is insane. Lost in the recent fury over the registration scheme for recreational model flyers, is that the FAA has ridiculous rules and regs for commercial "drone" flying. It may make sense if we're talking about 50lb heavy lift camera ships, but even for common commercial purposes, we're usually talking about <10lb machines. There's no reason to require anything as grand as a full scale license, detailed flight and maintenance logs, etc. FAA is screwing up on all fronts on this deal. AMA is getting steamrolled on the recreational side and doesn't even concern itself with the "commercial" side, which is a farce considering a video posted on youtube with penny ante ads is considered commercial and directly impacts the membership and the broader flying community they purport to represent. And big business and commercial pilot union interests are winning the day against all us hobbyists and small-time entrepreneurs.murankar wrote:In order to do commercial stuff you had to apply for an exemption through the faa. Sorry. End rant... I'm not dealing well with all this... My chi has definitely left the building.

Re: How is this right?
Well I was watching a tedtalk on YouTube. The speaker was talking about being a commercial quad flier for a college. He explained how he had to get a dull scale pilots license. Not sure how that was relevant but that's what he had to do.
