Don't laugh, I got a quad for Christmas!

Post by Vipertech13 »

My loving wife spotted this in a discount store in our area called "Ollie's" home of good stuff cheap. It's a Tech Toyz Aerodrone. Roughly 13 inches in diameter and equipped with a camera that can take pictures or record live video all LOS no FPV. For $50.00 it came with an extra set of blades, 2gb mini sd card and usb card reader, 1 lipo battery 1s 550mah with usb charge cable and I recently purchased 2 750mah batteries for HK for $ 3.21 each because having 1 battery sucks, it has led's on the bottom that are white in the front and green in the rear and a provided transmitter it is 2.4 ghz. The all up weight with camera is 152 grams. I wasn't looking to get into quads but she thought it might interest me and bought it for Christmas.

I have flown it in our breezeway and the garage to get the hang of it. It does have a gyro system and it keeps it level but I really noticed that throttle management is needed during rotational maneuvers, it drops fast and boy I am learning to use the "Rudder" stick!
The quad has a 360 deg. flip button you take it up 15 feet hit the button and it will do a backflip and has 4 settings for I call them"Rates" and the higher you set them the more acrobatic it becomes I haven't ventured there yet I am happy maintaining level flight and rotating it around.
The transmitter has trims on it so you can minimize drifting along with the camera operation buttons and the led's can be switched off also.
It get about 6 min. of flight time and the led's flash when the voltage is low, so you have time to get it down to a safe area before it cuts power completely.
With our weekend blizzard 30+ inches of snow in about a 24 hour period I thought it would be cool to take it out and try to get some video. I admit it is not the best but I don't think it's too bad for its first outdoor run.

Looks like those props could do with balancing.
Or maybe you just need a bigger quad so you can carry a better camera. :D
