Gonna make a few gates.. we were using pvc w noodles.. then everyone in our group each bought real gates.. but they don't last long enough for what u pay for them... I mean let's face it.. the damn things are gonna get beat to hell! Also.. it's getting dark soon.. and given that I go to a lot of events.. free time at night hanging out at them.. I think I'm going to make LEDs for them... any ideas on how to make them cheaply are much appreciated... anyhow, this will be my winter project.. and a slow one at that till I find work.. but here is the mock up of the first one.. I think I may change this design a bit to increase visibility.. one noodle at a distance is practically invisible.. so I want to double the width using noodles.. anyhow.. here goes. The hoop is 1/2" pvc, the stakes are as well.. the poles are 3/4".. so u stake in the ground, slide the poles on, then drop in the hoop. I use a nail & rope to set the depth and make removal easier. I'll post up as I go.. it'll be slow tho.

The pool noodle. Hey I like that idea. You also can use old hula-hoops too, I think

First test successful.. impact resulted in the gate giving way but didn't fall or break apart.. i wasn't hauling ass tho.. need to get to the field to get speed up.. and it'll be hit I'm sure.. lol.. so far so good.

Keena was out & found led ropes on sale at Big Lots.. and bought 2.. red & blue.. these are great and would serve the purpose well.. if.. if they ran DC.. but they don't convert from AC.. so not really feasible for the field.. but a ton of fun at home! Check it out!

Instead of PVC the guys around here like to use PEX tubing. Has a little more give and is pretty cheap. Then wrap with a pool noodle.
Lighting them... Rope lights. Or if you go with pex, you may actually be able to run the lighting inside the pex and have it bleed through? There are online sources for 12 and 24v LED strip and/or rope lighting. Perfect for 3s or 6s direct powering.

That's a 150ft spool of the stuff, great if you're wanting to make a bunch of lightable gates.
