Binding problems

Post by DOG »

Hey everyone. I just received this quad from HeliDirect yesterday afternoon https://www.helidirect.com/tinywhoop/ti ... 2-bnf.html and I'm having problems binding this quad with my DX6. I've check out a couple of videos, not many out their, and still nothing. I got a hold of the quad tech for HeliDirect "Jody" and explain my situation. He was no help since he doesn't know much about that quad. Since the quad specialist hasn't a clue I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestion on how I can bind this quad to my DX6. I will be very appreciated since I'm sad to say that I have FPV glasses since Dec.6th and haven't use them yet. Thanks

Hey Dog.
Have you checked that your radio is DSM2 compatible?
Might also want to read the comments here for any help.

Hi DOG, if it is the new DX6 it will not work as the quad is DSM2. Not sure if USA has changed like the UK where DSMX is the only compatible rx with Spektrum radios.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. Hey Lee, yes my radio is DSMX/DSM2 and I have the radio set @22ms and DSM2 on frame rate. Hey Graham, the radio I have is the new DX6 and it does have DSMX/DSM2. I'm thinking is it possible that this quad might have a problem. I haven't had any other problems with BNF quads before. I can't get the RX on the quad to blink fast so I can bind.

Make sure the setting is DSM2 and check what RX is on it. "BNF version come with receiver (4 options: Frsky Receiver, Flysky Receiver, DSM2 Receiver)."

Some info i found DOG:

Great little quad, PIDs are good straight out the box but the rates are way too high especially for indoor flying, so turn those down if you're finding it too twitchy (especially in acro mode). Button on the side of the camera is very hard to get to because it's blocked by the frame, but mine came with a rubber band instead of glue so I could just lift it up enough to free the button. Comes with a second set of props, but they're a different design so once you break/lose one from each set you no longer have a full set of matching props - buy a bunch of spares when you order the quad. FrSky receiver needs your Taranis to be in D8 mode, so anybody with an EU-LBT Taranis will need to update the OpenTX software on it via the OpenTX Companion to enable D8 mode - if you have a Taranis with bootloader 2.1.6 you need to update that first otherwise it won't connect to OpenTX Companion.

This is more a PNP that comes with a receiver than a BNF as it will not fly out of the box. I got the DSM version so maybe FrSky versions come pre-configured. Mine did not and it took me a few hours in the Clearflight Configurator to get this ready to fly. This is my first time configuring Clearflight and this quad does not come with any manual or instructions so there is a steep learning curve. Now that I have it configured, it flies well though I have more than expected static in the FPV view even when it is only 2 meters away. I tried two different receivers/screens and had the same problem.

Try this link to get some important info on setting up your quad. Explains how to setup binding with a Spektrum receiver. Caution when upgrading the software as some have run into issues with the driver to CF interface. The review covers the EX100 but it is very similar to the EX110. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=2750532

Hey there Graham Lawrie. Thanks again with all this info. Yeah, I'm learning that's this quad is a pain in he butt. Lee has some info I was checking out and I should of just got another QX95. That was a fun quad and easy to bind. It's all good on the video Graham Lawrie but when it comes to plugging in the battery to bind the motor start to spin without me doing anything. I'm confuse.

Up date:
Well I spent most of the day messing with this EX110. No matter what I do as soon as plug the battery in the motor starts to spin and I have no throttle control. The end point are at it's lowest -150. I still think this damn quad wasn't working from the beginning. I do have it on DSM2 like the video mention.

DOG it could possibly be to do with what version of Cleanflight it is running.

I had an old Naze board that i could update to the latest software but i had a similar issue with motors running and no throttle control. I re-flashed it with an older version 1.11.0 that was stable and that worked.

For me it can only be flight controller issue communicating with TX.

This is the board you have. I would check what version of Cleanflight is on it . If it is the latest 1.14.0 then re-flash it to an older version if you cant see anything moving in the TX screen on Cleanflight.

Hey Graham Lawrie. Yes cleanflight latest version is on it. I'm really thinking that it's a FC issue. I mention to Helidirect when I received the quad that I'm having problems and they didn't know much about this quad. Hopefully they will help me out with a new one, store credit or another quad that will work. I'll fine out Monday what they can do to resolve this situation. Thanks again! :)

Here's an up date. I got of hold of Larry in sales Dept.for HeliDirect and explain that Jody, quad specialist, stated to me that he's been hearing nothing but problems with theses Echine FC going bad on the quad. He gave me an RMA# and ask me what I wanted to do. I took store credit. They were very helpful and I was wondering about one of theses 2 quads to purchase instead. I can use your opinion please. #1 https://www.helidirect.com/fpv/fpv-raci ... racer.html or I was thinking this one for the second choice https://www.helidirect.com/fpv/fpv-raci ... mbled.html. I also can get another QX since I already have parts for it. Jody mention if I do decide on another QX he said the QX90c http://graysonhobby.com/eachine-qx90c-d ... combo.html is the best one out of the box to bind and fly with stock PID setting. I'm thinking of getting the QX90c PLUS one of my other choices above. I just want something small to fly outside the house. In side not so much. TOO many knic-knacs an anmials. Any comments appreciated.

Hi DOG my choice would be the TBS due to quality not price. Kev has a good micro FPV quad posted on here also:)

Hey Graham Lawrie. Yeah that TBS does look sturdy. What micro FPV does Kev has? I would like a good micro FPV quad tto start of with and maybe down the road I would be interested in a quad something bigger like this one http://graysonhobby.com/eachine-racer-2 ... -3801.html. When I'm ready to go bigger, I will be asking you guys what you recommend. Til then HeliDirect just received my EX110 today on a return. I'm getting store credit for the time being. I'm still looking for a fun whoop to fly. What quality whoop/micro FPV you recommend? Please don't say this one https://www.helidirect.com/tinywhoop/ti ... whoop.html Good lord that's pricey.

Hey there Graham Lawrie. After reading up on the TBS Xracer http://team-blacksheep.com/shopsets/key:xracer My focus is going toward this one. A little more then I would like to spend on a micro FPV but your right about the quality. I'm sure the sturdiness will come handy if/when I crash  Also you get what you pay for so why not. :|

Nice one DOG:) I have a TBS Discovery and you will also see a lot of people using their new antenna the Triumph for FPV racing. Their stuff is quality but pricey:)

Ooo, I like this x-racer. Think I'm gonna grab one. Blade tiny whoop isn't cutting it for me. Nice in the house, but in a gym it feels way too restricting and underpowered. This should fit the bill.
