He has had it for quite some time and has not been able to get it to fly with his 9X.
I happen to have a 9X that I did not get rid of when I got the Taranis.
My son Jacob uses it to fly on Phoenix.
Once I figured what system to use on the HT8 and how to plug it in, I downloaded a model for the Taranis off the net, installed it and flew the little thing.
Ok so the helicopter flies ok and the HT8 works, first part of the battle won.
I transferred the HT8 to the 9X and created a new model.
Try as I might, I could not get it to work correctly.
I searched the net looking for someone else that has done this and found nothing, surely someone has.
I did find how to hook the HT8 to the module bay so it does not need an internal battery, that was handy as I did not have the correct plug to charge the HT8 battery.
Finally I had a brain wave.
Both the Taranis and the 9X have a screen that shows the stick outputs on a bar graph, I forget what it is called but I tweaked the 9x settings until the sticks did the same things on that screen. This meant changing a swash mix value to negative and reversing some channels until it all worked.
Success, the little beast now flies.

It is really twitchy and he is a learner with CP heli's so I have tamed down the pitch and throttle curves a bit.
The one thing I have not been able to figure yet is the gyro as the nose is drifting right slowly but I will get there.
I will have to recheck it on the Taranis again and see see if it has the same drift.
This is a fun little heli, I see there is now a 2s brushless version, I think I want one.
