Gyro setup help

Hi guys,
Me again. Like an old fart I have forgotten how to set up the gyro on the dx8. I am using Tony's old Vbar gyro. I managed to get it working after a lot
of messing around with dirvers on my old windows computer. Anyway all setup on the software side but what do you set the gyro to in the tx. For the life of me
I can not remember and I have tried a few variations but no luck so far so I have something set wrong. I have the channel set to gear and switch set to gyro.
I have 70, 60, 60 values set I can not get the rate mode to work for some reason. The tail moves left and right on the tx stick and the end points are set ok and it moves when i move the heli
It's just rate mode I can not get to work. Any help would be great. Thanks. I think this is about the 150 th rebuild of this heli lol
and I still can not remember the setting. Doh! old age.

I have the following settings Treff on my 550:
Pos 0: 57.5
Pos 1: -6.5
Pos 2: 0

Thanks Graham I will give that a try. I keep reading about bank switching in the vbar to get the gyro to work
but I think that is when you using a seperate rx with the vbar. I am using 2 sats so I think the set up is different.

My vbar experience is limited but:

You should be able to setup bank switching with sats or an rx unit. But get the gyro settings working right on the switch you're using first. Then tackle the bank switching.

You need to set one of the gyro settings to a negative value. Selecting it with the switch should put it into rate mode. If you have a 50 and 60 set, then have the third be -50. Any negative value will work, but in general I always set my rate mode setting to the same value as my heading hold setting, just in the negative direction. This should get you similar gain behavior in rate mode as in heading hold. If you use a small negative value or 0 it will be in heading hold, but it will fly extremely "squishy" in that mode. Only use that if you're using it to "reset" your tail blades before taking off in heading hold mode, not flying in rate mode.

Hi pvolcko thanks for the info. The problem I am having is that although I have 57.5 in pos 0 -6.5 pos 1 and 0 in pos 2. I have
the channel set to gear and sw to gyro. I can not switch out of HH mode to get rate mode even when I switch through 0 to 2 there is
no difference. So I think that I have set something wrong
in the tx but for the life of me I can not spot what I have done wrong. Hope your keeping well my friend. Cheers

In the Monitor screen on the DX8, does the gear slider move when you flick the Gyro switch?

Hi Lee thanks for the reply. I have found out after a lot of research that there is no rate mode on the Kbar unless
you program in the bank switching. It works in HH mode only. To answer your question. Yes it does and I can
see the values of the switch positions. Reading on the net most users set the gyro to the f-mode switch and do some
mixing. It does not really matter this is going to be my "crasher" lol so HH mode will do for now.
Bye the way came across a wonderful video, I do not know how old the video was of you presenting your wife with
mac air laptop. Very moving. Great. Thanks again for coming back. Just another little note. Though I had everything
sorted on this old 450 but the head turns out to have some sort of warp in it so awaiting a replacement.

Hi all.
Well after a long wait finally got some spares to get this heli flying again. Hopefully weather permitting it will be at least hovering.
Got new head. new tail. All new shafts, main drive, bearings, skids and finally dumped the spectrum fbl unit so with a little luck
and a fair wind it will be okay. Cheers

Hi Graham. Hope you and the family are well. The FBL unit is the one Tony gave me. I thought is was dead but that turned out to be a faulty lead.
I did have problems getting the drivers to work in my ancient laptop but lots of reading on the net sorted that out. The unit is a Vbar chinese copy
but it will do for now. I am almost there with the set up but found my push rods on the servos were to long so sorted something shorter but now I have -17 pitch and 10 degree positive
so I think they need to be shorter again. All good for learning again lol.

Just to let you know about the heli. Well, I think this maybe a bin job. After extensive rebuild there is so much vibration
that the thing also destroys it self on spool up. lol. Even with the main blades removes there is still so much vibration it's almost
like an electric shock when touching the boom so something is way out of whack.. I will strip down once more and try again but
it will be the last time for this heli. It's been crashed so many times over the years I think I need a re-kit. Cheers.

Hi Graham. Kev lives quite far away unfortunately. I will begin stripping down boom first and
see what is going on. I don't mind the building just need a little patience and replace things one at a time to
see if I can find the problem. Cheers

Hi Treff, I had trouble with my 450 and 550 it was torque tube bearings and tail bearings. More recently on my 550 i had tightened the main blades too much and the vibration was horrendous. But with your main blades being off its either shaft or bearings:)

Hi Graham. Thanks for the info. I think myself it maybe the tail box bearing. It a belt drive so I will go thought it slowly.
Unfortunately I have come down with a chest infection so its on the back burner for a while. Thanks again.
