Cheers Graham. Recovering slowly thanks. Found number one fault on heli in that the swash bearing as gone oval so the swash is jumping around. Also
bearing in tail box as almost disintergrated. So getting there slowly. I have all the spares so no problem. Doing a bit here and there between coughing
bouts lol. Cheers

Hi,
Well the story so far. I thought this was going to be a simple rebuild. lol. So far I have installed new tail box, new head, main bearings. I did notice that the motor mount
was installed upside down so rectified that error and still getting bad vibration so much so that the ferrell drive on the motor comes loosebwhen I spool up. At low revs the heli is smooth as silk
but open throttle and it tries to destroy it self. I have put new tape under the vbar just incase but I think the heavy vibration as destroyed this unit because no matter what I do
it will not talk to the computer anymore. I have changed and re installed the drivers twice and also the entire software but it refuses to communicate.
Anyway that's the state of play at the moment. I'm beginning to think that the motor is the cause of the vibration so I will be looking to replace this shortly.
All good fun and keeps me out of the pub lol. Cheers.

The stories end. We have come to the end. I discovered and how this occured I really do not know but when I apply throttle and spool
up the pitch was in fact going negative in stead of positive that's why there was lots of vibration because the heli was infact driving itself into the ground.
I found this out on the back lawn of my garden this afternoon. Quite stupidly, after discovering this fact infact lots and lots of stupidity I decided to reverse the throttle. The heli
began to spool up immediately and it also began to rise in the air without any input from the sticks at all. I threw the failsafe switch and of course because I had reversed the throttle
it did not work. It was the to my horror I heard children playing in the next garden. The heli was about 6 feet off the ground now and the tail began to go right getting faster and faster.
I pushed cyclic forwards, nothing, nothing was working at all. I completely panicked thinking of the children because the heli was now about 7 feet and the motor was still winding up to speed.
I actually threw my transmitter at it. It was the only thing to hand. I scored a direct hit on the main blades one breaking off and stuck into my wrist just missing an artery. Lots of blood but
no real damage done.
Well that's it my return to helicopters short and sweet but over. Why the pitch should be working in opposite direction. I do not know I have never come across this before. Even after all
the pre flight checks I managed to miss this. Anyway thanks for all the help. Have a good one guys. Cheers

Holy. Crap. Glad you weren't too seriously injured, though it still sounded like it was pretty nasty injury. And also glad you managed to get it down before it got too out of hand.

This kind of mistake happens to even seasoned pilots and builders. A similar thing happened at my club last year, actually. Best pilot in the club was test flying a heli for someone after giving it a look over. Spun up normally but wouldn't take off. He was in normal mode so he chopped the throttle to spin it down. It blasted into the air. In that case the throttle wasn't reversed so it spun to a blade stop about 40ft up and then came down in a spectacular crash. It was a JR helicopter and the builder who set it up didn't realize the swash->blade linkage was going through a lever arm which was reversing the pitch direction. Test pilot also missed the pitch direction problem during bench testing.

That said, you've had a horrible string of experiences with helis over the last couple years. Don't blame you one bit calling it done, especially after this.

Hope you'll still be around here. Maybe planes or boats will work out better for you?

Wish you the best, Treff. And a speedy recovery to the injury you sustained.

Thanks for all the nice wishes guys. Very kind of you all. I still can not work out where I went wrong and how the pitch was working opposite
to the throttle because all the software said everything was working in the right direction so still baffled. Cheers
