Finally!!!!!

Post by Lee »

After waiting since last August for a new job, I finally started last week.
Didn't want to say anything until I had finished the first week.
So I am now working as a boat builder :)
We are building a prototype catamaran.
First two days I was dismantling four racing yachts, in the Port of Sotogrande.
This week I have been getting to grips with all the tools in the factory.
I am now the official lathe operator :D
Heres some pics of the factory.

One of the hulls

The other one.
Image

Another boat in the making.
Image

The first thing I made when I got there.
This is the anchor point for the main stays to the mast.
Image

My job for the last three days, and next weeks work.
These are bushings for the keel.
I cut out 6 pieces from a bar of aluminium. Drilling the holes through the centre.
Image

Next I turn them down to a specific size. This one has the outer dimensions turned down. Now I have to take out most of the inside to accept a nylon bushing. Should take most of next week to do that.
Image

I am really enjoying the work. Using my hands and building things. Learning a new trade, I can take with me, where ever I go.

Oh, and the money helps :)
Expect new toys soon, and finally I can fix my Goblin.

Great stuff Lee. I've always wanted to learn to work milling, lathe, CNC, etc. machines. One of my life goals. Great to see you diving in and getting to work on really cool products while learning.

Very cool Lee:) Only one safety concern:)LOL in the UK where the chain pull is slung around the main beam to support the frame being welded, all lifting beams must be tested and marked with a SWL:)

This only becomes an issue if their is an accident:) UK rules only:) LOL:)
