Wise Words from Bruce

Post by Derek »

I don't know what you all think of Bruce, from RCModelReviews and XJet on Youtube, but I think he's an absolutely fantastic guy and a massive asset to the RC Community, all over the world. I hope you all don't mind that I've shared his most recent video. It's about 35 minutes long (fair warning) but it was an awesome video about the changes that are being made by regulators and officials. I do hope that this doesn't turn into a "political" issue. If the potential for a political issue is there, Admins, please feel free to delete this thread.

He makes a lot of valid points but unfortunately the beaurocrats here in New Zealand will totally ignore this.
Basically our new rules make my 6yo a criminal if he flies his 15 gram nano quad at the local park.
It turns most of my flying sites into no go zones.
It makes me a criminal for flying FPV on my own property without a spotter.
I now officially declare that I WILL become a criminal due to these new regulations.

I was with him on everything except his gripe with having to get permission. Now if it is public land I don't know why you'd have to get permission from anyone, unless it was withing X of an airport. But for private land... I don't care if you're out in the middle of no where, you get permission to fly there. You have no idea what the owners have going on out there. Maybe he's got people out there hunting. Maybe he's growing weed. Maybe he's got that weekend to host the 80 and over only nudist weekend. Maybe he's just a crotchety old buggar and doesn't want you or anyone else on his land. Whatever the reason, you don't have a right to use his property. While there may be a law saying he doesn't own the airspace over the property, that is legal technicality. To be ethically and morally righteous you need to get permission first.

You'd have to do it to shoot a gun on the property. You'd have to get it to ride a dirt bike, mountain bike, snowmobile, etc. on the property. No reason you shouldn't get permission to fly over the property.

I agree and disagree:) In the Highlands of Scotland the landowners are normally absent. With it being rural most of the time especially autumn and winter there is never anyone about:)

Usually a bit different over here in the States... Especially here in the south.... U just don't go hang out on someone's property & expect them to be ok with it.. And if u do, don't be surprised to be greeted by the land owner who's "pack'n". Not to say it's all that extreme most the time... But like I said, don't be surprised.

Land owner records are public here. You look it up and request permission. Maybe if I made a good faith effort to get in touch and got no response I'd consider it, but doubt I'd do it.
