Build Season Is Here

Post by Derek »

Good news and bad news...

The good news is that I think my work schedule is going to begin to lighten up. Not as much mandatory overtime....thankfully. Don't get me wrong...I enjoy the extra cash but I'd like to be able to spend time at home with my wife and daughter, as well as spend some time in the workshop and at the flying field. All this mandatory overtime lately has really put a stop to my flying. As I said above, though, it seems as the mandatory overtime is going to lighten up and now I can spend more time at home.

The bad news is that I was looking at the weather forecast for the rest of the month and it's not looking like favorable weather for flying. Very cold and windy. We even got about 3" of snow yesterday. But, I knew the colder weather was coming, so it's not a shock...just disappointing because I've not gotten as much flying in this year as I had hoped.

However, I should be able to take a portion of my overtime funds to order some needed parts for some of my models to get them flying again and get some parts ordered to finish some builds that I have in progress already.

Same here, Derek. What few good days we've had lately have had other stuff going on. Guess its annual maintenance and fix 'em up time.

Same here. I thought I was going to be flying more now that I have the 180cfx but that has its own issues. We had a slight covering of snow on the grass but thats about it. I live to close to the lake for any real snow fall this soon. With it being unseasonably warm I was shocked to see what I did. The lake is not cooling off like it should, which to some degree is good but on the other its not. Until the lake freezes we can see huge snow falls in an instant. Lake effect is no joke.

I hope to get everything up and flying before spring.

I may freeze my butt...but there is one day this week (unfortunately Derek works that day) where I may try again to get my Delta Ray in the air. I need to run the batteries down anyways so I can get them to storage charge. Plus it is supposed to warm up a bit this Thursday and Friday...Thanksgiving holiday...and I am hoping to get the boats out to run those batteries down for the season. Then I may be done unless the weather does something strange, which would not be the odd for Indiana. Derek is right about our weather for the last few weeks. I am far too inexperienced to fly in the winds we have had...day after day.

Dad....if the weather is "semi-decent" over the holidays, let me know when you are gonna take your Delta Ray out. I'll make sure that I have a few packs charged up and I'll go with ya.

I'll still fly as much as I can.. Granted I don't usually have a ruff a winter as u guys up north... But I am stacking up parts for a new build too.. So hopefully that will occupy some of the down time.

I'd love to fly when it's dry but if it's "cold" cold...my finger tips just can't handle it. I should probably see about ordering that transmitter muff from HK....maybe two so that Dad can have one.

I guess I am lucky where I live. It does not even get cold enough to snow.
We get less than a dozen good frosts a year.
We get the occasional mid winter day that is clear and bright and practically dead calm.
Don't get me wrong though, it can get pretty wet and wild too. :)

This may be the only day in the next seven where the wind is not in double digits so I braved the roughly 30 degree weather and ran down my three batteries for my Delta Ray. My wife sat in the car and greatly enjoyed the show as I did not embarrass myself by crashing. I spent the first battery just flying then used the next two doing repeated take offs and landings. The landing is where I need the most practice. And this is what she enjoys watching most...as do I. Sorry for no pictures or video but we both had a good time.
