Sport/3D/Smack Question

I like to know if i got this right about the 3 ways to fly. Sport flying, to me, is low head speed and just cruzing around, causal flying. No fancy tricks just showing off your bird. 3D, to me, Higher head speed so you are able to use +/- pitch to perform tricks with less flying time. Smack, to me, is a helicopter that is on crack. High head speed and +/- pitch is increased. More like under control crazy flying. I here people say like; I'm sport flying today. I put the smack on that bird today or I did some 3D flying today. Just want to know how other members explain their flying style. Good Day All!

I think it's different in the mind of the pilot as far as "sport" fly'n goes... I also think some guys call sport 3d.. Smack... Yeah smack is smack... Some guys can do a few maneuvers in the smack category... Others are blow'n up packs in 2.5 minutes... Some of those guys here at Nall... I'm my opinion... It's all helis.. No need to give it labels.. Just fly... But do give props to those with skills... It's early.. I need coffee.

It's all aerobatics apart from smack which is insanity.

As long as you enjoy it who cares.

Sport can be inverted too. Low head speed doesn't mean you can't flip it over. :) Low headspeed only means you can't be pulling hard collective and pitch maneuvers. Smooth flying. Hard tail stops/reversals can cause it to bog too. Can be 3D, but can't really be "smack" since that, to me at least, involves a lot of hard collective use, flirting with the ground, etc.

ive dabbled in low head speed, like Paul said all maneuvers are possible its just collective management, i actually prefer my 550 @ 1850rpm its more challenging because everything is in slow mo, yoou have moore time but you

heres a video from last year, running my 550 dfc (6s 2400hs) on 5s governed @ 1850 rpm

Your heli looks like a feather floating in a gentle wind danhampson. Very smoooooth and steady! Nice flying.I take it with that low head speed you probably need plenty of room to maneuver. That is one thing i really don't have is much room. We do well with the area we are confined to. Lol

Nice flight... I like the low hs.. I should fly in it more often... Helps with collective management I'm sure.

Sport flying. - (like an airplane) circuits, rolls, loops.

3D. - manouevers that involve more than one axis to perform. ie piroflips, rolling circuits, Piro tictoc.

Smack 3D. - highly aggressive 3D, performed close to the ground.

Yeah sport has loops and rolls. Very fluid and smooth or "big air".

Smack is tarq alsadi in his earlier years. Very quick and aggressive or "choppy". 3d is almost in the middle.
