I got some good news in the mail from the VA. It's official I am service connected at 40%. For those who don't know how this works, the VA said I am 40% disabled and entitled to compensation for the rest of my life. My payments should start next month and I am being back dated to October last year. This is a great relief for me since my plans can move forward.

Research house purchase, check
Pay off my credit card (my only card), check
Save for house down payment.

Good news mate

Thank you. With all the stuff going on this was the best news yet. Oh and I forgot I still have one more thing pending which could take me up to 50% or more.

There is still a lot going on over here. After looking at my finances I should be doing much better than I have. I maybe even have some money for some hobby stuff in the future. First step is the house and get anything fixed that needs it. I am focusing on foreclosure properties. These come really cheap to buy but end up being nightmares to fix. I will be updating you guys as things unfold.

Good for you Matthias. What's the story behind you becoming disabled? If you don't mind me asking.

After almost 18 years of military work I have been broken. With my anxiety and depression along with hearing loss the VA decided to compensate me. It's not disabled like needing a wheel chair or special parking. It's more like workman's compensation.

So to day I visited the guy who got all this started. He reviewed the findings and said that (out of 15 items I claimed) 2 were dismissed which I knew would happen on one of them, two are confirmed and being paid and the rest need further evaluation. Three appointments in the morning to further evaluate some of the items I claimed.
