My new toy

Let me be clear, it's not a toy. This is the real deal.

It's a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. I have been looking at this for about a month. Then I got it in my hands. Man I am in love, my new girl friend.

I went to a law enforcement Smith & Wesson dealer. On had to show my military ID to get in. I left the store with the fire arm with 2 extra mags for $10 less than everyone else without the two extra mags. I also built a small range bag for it. So for now I feel great even though the Gaui is still down. That heli is next.

That's what I have found. No one had a true negative about it. What I mean is that all the negatives where based on personal feelings. This firearm is a work horse for what it is.

This my first firearm. I went small till I learn how to shoot better. Then I am off to a full size 40.

You got your work cut out for you then. Shooting a smaller pistol accurately is generally more difficult than with a full size variant. Less mass, often an odd balance to them, etc. makes for harder precision shooting. This kind of pistol is meant for CCW and for shooting targets no more than 20-30 yds away. Hopefully you have a range to practice at that allows for placing targets at 10 yds and even closer. Train for shooting the gun how it was meant to be used, don't expect to be pulling off 6 inch groups at 50 or 100 yds.

Well.. I never wanted one on until our store got robbed at gun point... That was back when I was about 20yrs old... Then about a year later I was victim of an attempted car jacking... After that I bought one.. Had it for less than a year & didn't feel comfortable having it with small children.. Sold it.. Then after a few years got another... So I've had the S&W 40cal & now the Glock... I like them, but they do scare me to be honest.. But not as much as needing one and not having it.

I can't see it any other way. It's going to be a hassle handling a heli and pistol.

Today I finally got a hold of someone at the Sheriff department for Lake County Ohio. Great news, no ccl/chl classes for me. I get to save $120 for my CCW/CHL permit. All I need is my application, $67 for processing fees, my Discharge paper work and my range card. Man life just got good.

Get some range time in. Keep using them on paper and get used to having them. Its different for most people. I too am scared to have it around my kids. I keep the clear chamber indicator and cable lock in it when they are here. Good thing is I dont have ammo yet. When I do get some it will only be mag loaded when I have the gun on my body. If it is being stored at the house it will be mag clear.

Adopt an inspection of the firearm that you feel will ensure the pistols are clear. Its very scary to say the least until you get used to it being around and your safety routine.

Invest in a small safe or lock box. Lets you keep it secured from the youngins, but mag loaded and ready to go without having to screw around with loading mags and whatnot. I keep all my pistols stored in a safe, but mags loaded. Safe to handle when removing from the safe, easy to chamber a round if need be.

once I get ammo my thoughts may change. FOr now that's the plan. My issues are not at the house as of yet, its around work thats the issue. Plus having it while I am out and about I will feel a lot better.

No firearms are allowed on the property. If I have it in my car while at work I can get fired on the spot.
