Of all the registration crap being implemented around the world, this seems the most reasonable.

This is more or less exactly what they tried to implement here in the US. They're a little more fuzzy with "well away" from airports, which IMO is very bad since it lets them basically go all willy nilly with geofencing with the drone manufacturers. They also have the bit about keeping the drone in sight, which essentially outlaws google based FPV, depending on how it is interpreted. The report they're basing all this on said 400 grams was the lower limit for damage to a helicopter windscreen. So why require registration of 250-399 gram drones?
And a big item... They're requiring registrees pass some kind of test covering aviation regulations, safe flying practices, privacy law, etc. That seems ripe for abuse. "What? Your 10 year old can't pass this 30 question exam for their Christmas present? Too bad."
I'm not sure I'd call this scheme reasonable. But, it's the UK. Not my neck of the woods. If British RC peeps are okay with it, so be it I guess.
Which brings up an issue we had here in the US. Can international visitors register? Do they have to?
More questions: What records are maintained and for how long? Does each "drone" have to be registered independently, or is it a pilot registration and you affix your number to each model you fly? Does the registration need to be renewed on some periodic basis?
