OrangeRX receivers and 3 axis stabilisation

Has anyone used the OrangeRX receivers, and/or the combined receivers with 3 axis stabilisation systems
Orange rx rx3s is the combined I'm thinking of and the orange R615s receiver..
I really want to make a fixed wing, or something other than a helicopter, car, boat, snow skidder, hovercraft... Whatever takes my fancy, I've got servos, motor and other bits to use up
The spec on these look really good, spektrum compatible too...

I don't trust anything to the air with a HK receiver in, but that's my preference plenty of people out there who use them, spektrum do the same rx with gyro stabilisation and you see them now and again on bmfa and EBay

I've only ever tried to use their 9ch dsm2 compatible Rx's. I had a horrible experience with them. Would bind and then lose bind. Would take a bind a couple times and then wouldn't do anything (init, bind, nothing) ever again. Had this happen with four of them (three from different vendors), presumably different lots, spread over a couple months. I gave up and ended up buying some old 7ch spektrum rxs that were DSM2 only (needed that in order to dual bind for a 350qx gimbal control).
I have some of their DSMX Rx's but I have not tried to use them yet. Still building the quad I planned to use one on.

Many people fly them without issue. I was using one of their older units which may have compatibility issues with newer transmitters. When I try out the DSMX recievers I have I'll let you know.

I used a 615 Rx for about a year, but only trusted it on wireless sim link,
I just can't bring my self to trust a £xxx model on a 5 or 15 pound rx

Thanks Paul, they are quite cheap for what that are really especially the combined RX and 3 axis one... Sounds good for a fixed wing

Make sure you do range checks before flights when using these cheapie Rx's. Should be doing them all the time, but probably makes sense to make it absolutely mandatory on these.

to be honest you really dont need a 3 axis gyro on a plank. As for orangeRx stuff. I have never used it. like Paul i have heard mixed reviews about them. If you do decide on using them i would keep to foamy builds and nothing to big.

I've put a 3 axis gyro on my 41" edge. I'm using it to cancel out some of the wind as I got bored of waiting for the wind to drop enough to fly, and as Murphy law goes there's been virtually no wind since I installed it lol.

Sod's law that mate, but hey it's nice to have it there, I was considering putting a bogey plane together with the 3 axis gyro on it, but decided to stick with helis for now.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll just leave orange alone for now, maybe if I get a land vehicle I'll get the cheap one... I'll get the spektrum instead.... Decision made...lol

IF you were thinking of putting it on a micro heli or a cheapo foamie plane then I'd seriously consider it, but for anything with some decent money or time investment in it I'd use some quality electronics.

There are options other that the orange stuff there the eagle tree guardian, hobby eagle do a few models (I have the a3 super) and then there's the bavarian demon cortex if you have got deep pockets.
The two with the best features are the hobby eagles £30-£50 and the bavarian demon £250-£275.

It's just for a home made plank, or snow skidder like Derek's... Just want something cheap to have fun with when I can't fly heli..

About two years ago, I found out about Hobby King and their "OrangeRx" line of receivers. I was surprised at how inexpensive their OrangeRx stuff was, so I bought two receivers. To this day, these receivers are working and I've not had an incident that I could trace the problem back to the OrangeRx. I've flown some of my previous builds out of my line of sight (vertically), chop the throttle to let the plane glide down...check the rx and still have a solid signal light. Quite happy with that!
Last year, I bought two of the OrangeRx receiver/flight stabilization units. Both of these are still working. I don't use them as much anymore, but they are still working. I was given two of the OrangeRx flight stabilization units (no rx combo) and I still use them. One of them is in my Blue Cub STOL. Although the plane does fly very well with the stabilization "off".....on those more windy days, the flight stabilization is awesome! I love it!
Would I use an OrangeRx in a helicopter? Probably not. My planes are all scratch built. If/when I crash, the repair costs are actually quite cheap, provided that I don't mess up the electronics. If I'm just replacing foamboard, packing tape, and bamboo skewers...that's cheap. A helicopter, on the other hand, I think I would rather use the Specktrum DSMX equipment (that's the equipment that I already have). Yes, I have seen (with my own eyes) a 600 HK helicopter with an OrangeRx receiver and it flew very well.
A lot of people will really "dump" on the OrangeRx stuff. It all comes down to "what you want to spend", "what can you afford to lose".
For me....on my helicopters, I will spend the money for the Spektrum equipment. On my planes, I have quite a few Spektrum rx's (even some spares sitting around). The planes that have been tested and work well, I have all Spektrum rx's on board. Two of my planes have the OrangeRx on board and they still work.
As for my Snow Skidder, I bought a brand new OrangeRx R615X DSM2/DSMX Compatible 6Ch 2.4GHz Receiver w/CPPM. No, I don't need all 6 channels. I'll just be using 3 (throttle, rudder, and gyro gain). Last year, when I ran the Snow Skidder, it had an older model OrangeRx on board and it never had an issue. That specific OrangeRx got moved to a plane, earlier this year....and it works just fine.
At the end of the day, when it's all said and done....Primarily, I use Spektrum equipment....but for various applications (certain planes, my Snow Skidder), the OrangeRx has worked for me.

Excellent Derek, thanks for all that info. Well I guess based on all this info and Derek's info I'll order an OrangeRX combo, but I will only use it on ground vehicles or cheap to build planes... I've only got one heli at mo and it's got the spektrum ar6200 with satellite.
Thanks everyone. It's orange for ground and cheap foamies ONLY.....LOL

That's pretty much what I do and it works out well.

Yeah.. I have had no first hand experience with "orange" rx.. But have heard plenty of the same posted here.. I'd use one for like a act each build snow skidder or something yeah.. But I don't think I'd risk the amount invested in aircraft to one.

Thanks Clay, I wouldn't put it on anything expensive, but it will get me into building cheap foamies and skidders to have some fun fun fun
