KDE 700XF 505kv

Post by cml001 »

Got the motor for my next build in today. This is the same motor Paul chose for his 3 bladed Goblin 700. It does seem a bit heavy, but the quality.. Man.. I dig it! I'm with Paul on loving the rubber/plastic port for the wires to exit the base of the motor. Can't wait to finish gathering parts for this build & spool this beast up!

It's a whole lot of motor. I haven't come close to bogging it yet. Actually thinking about trying 14 degrees of pitch.

It is heavy too. Perhaps a touch too heavy. Wish I could move my batteries back a little more to get a better cg.

Well.. I'm used to a fly'n pig. My stock Align 550PRO DFC w a 5000mah pack is noticably heavier than my buddy's 550L.. Granted he uses a 4400mah pack on his... But I see several guys on HF using this motor. What I read on it is basically says it has enough ass to carry the extra weight. Suppose I'll find out soon enough.

Most definitely it has enough power to move itself and then some out of its own way. :) Definitely the most powerful setup I've ever flown before.

I've been getting a lot of... assertive advice... from people on FB lately pushing XNova motors as an alternative to KDE. I don't know if they have a large stable of reps or what, but seems every time I bring the choice up there are one or two people saying go XNova such and such, with varying degrees of tact.

XNova are no doubt very nice. They are also very expensive. If I was wanting maximum performance possible in a non-custom wind and was willing to pay that premium, sure. But KDE is plenty good. Just wish it fit in the canopy better. I'm dreading cutting a full bell opening in this beautiful carbon canopy paint job for the KSE. :)

I didn't really know anything about that motor, so I checked. That thing is a beast! What ESC do you need to run that thing? Will a 160 suffice?

Yeah the Xnova is like 90% efficient. People are claiming an increase in flight times. I am looking at a 6s option myself.

I'm using CC Edge 160A HV. Haven't checked logs yet but it should be a good fit. Doubt I've really pushed it to that high a level yet.

Lotta guys use a 120a ESC to help w weight.. Seems under rated if not "right on it".. Scared to go that route & toast a ESC & possible crash.. I have debated with myself over it tho.. I'll just stick the Edge 160HV in it.
