EC5 plug question

I have placed this question here because could not find anything on batteries.
Question is this, if any one can help. I have brought a Turnigy 6s 5000mha battery for my
heli and want to change the pugs to EC5 but the wires are 8swg and will not fit though the
plastic housing of the EC5. Looking at the net some people solder them before fitting into
the housing but I think the correct way is to pass the wire through the housing first
then solder pulling the lead back through the housing until the the brass clicks into place
The problem I have is that the wire is far to thick to pass through the housing.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks

I've always soldered the connector and then inserted into the back of the housing, using a flat blade screw driver or needle nose plier end to snap them into the housing. As far as I know this is how EC5's are supposed to be assembled. 8awg wire is pretty thick stuff for an EC5. You may find you need to actually trim some of the wire strands off to in order to get it to fit into the solder connector. If your battery has that thick a wire on it, you may want to consider using a larger connector type (6.5mm based Castle Connectors, for instance: http://www.helidirect.com/castle-creati ... -pack.html). Thicker wire usually means higher current delivery capability.

These vids are a bit useless I'm afraid. There are a number of different EC5 around at the moment some where the wire is pushed all the way through the blue
plastic connector and others where you solder on the brass connector first then push it through the housing from the back. How do you know the difference
when you buy them? They are all called EC5 but they are actually different designs. It's a pain in the butt.

I have always done as Paul stated, with my EC3 and 5s

If you have pull through then you're going to have a problem using them with the larger gauge wire. I usually buy my connectors from BuddyRC or ProgressiveRC, so I'm sure I'm getting the real deal. I'm sure there are reputable dealers for this stuff on your side of the pond. My suggestion is to find one and stick to them.

Well, after quite a bit of research I find there are two types of EC5 plugs. They look identical except for the brass contact where the
wire is soldered. Depending on type they have different chamfers on the brass. One, so it can be soldered to the wire then pushed
through the blue housing to lock in place. The other is that the wire is fed through the blue housing first then soldered before being pulled back
into the housing to lock into place. If your wire is 8swg then you need the former because the wire does not go through the blue
plastic housing. It's taken me 2 days to find this info and to realize I have the wrong type of plug. Oh well, at least I have learned

I have bought some cheap ec5s from hobby king i think and I bought a few from ProgressiveRc and both sets had to have the brass pushed through the back after soldering. I know I have seen a video where the plastic was pushed over the brass and then I found Lucian (Scorpion Power Systems U.S. Retailer) do the pushing through the back. I believe most if not all ec type connectors assemble the same way, push through the back.

No not all... Some require u to slide the blue housing over the wire.. Solder the bullet to the wire.. Then slide the blue housing over the bullet from the soldered end.... Kinda funky in my opinion.. Took me for a loop when I saw it(buddy of mines)... Personally iv only ever purchased my EC connectors from my LHS.. E-flite connectors is what he carries. Those go on the regular way.. Solder the bullet.. Then pass it thru the back(wire end) of the blue housing.. I use a 1.5mm Align hex wrench to seat it in & make it "click".
