iKon Update Beware!

Post by cml001 »

Hey guys. I was head'n to the field today and wanted to take a look at something in iKon on the 550 before leaving the house. Upon opening the iKon software on my laptop, it said update available... So I did. Once I got booted up & pluged in iKon.. It said I had to update the firmware.. I have that version on the N5C so I said ok & updated the 550. Test hover in the yard seemed ok so I went to the field. Once there I noticed a huge difference in the tail & spoolup rate. I landed & loaded the last save point, new pack, took off... One piro left.. One right.. Climb out with a little forward pitch.. No forward pitch.. What? No aileron either.. Right stick is dead.. No response... Throttle hold & auto down.. She had a forward drift(better than toward me) so as I auto down I half piro but the tail drops in doin this.. Snapped the tail fin and she rolled over on the ground... Couple scuffs on the canopy & a busted tail fin. So.... If u update.. TRIPLE check everthing... NOT happy! Suppose tonight I'll plug her in and see what's what... But I don't know why cyclic control was lost... Tail & collective are fine... Just cyclic... Anyhow... Beware!

Sorry to hear about your negative experience, Clay! I've got the Ikon on my 600 but because it's flying so well, I decided not to do the update.

Sorry to here about your mishap cml001. I know that the N5C is your baby and you don't like anything happening to her. I hope you can find out what when wrong so It doesn't happen again. Good Luck.

I've heard of this happening after firmware update. The servo and/or ail/ele settings (advanced menu) end up getting screwed up. Have to redo the setup from scratch or load a saved set from before the update.

Yeah, tomorrow I'm gonna reset the controller & start over.. Really sucks cause she was perfect.. For me anyway... Totally wish I had caught this issue prior to take off tho... Honestly.. It's got my head turning that this is a possibity and I have never read of this happening... Seems as tho there should be a disclaimer about this... It's f*<%'n dangerous! I'm so pissed about it I've been looking at VBar Neo and debating... I don't kno.. I need to cool off about this.

I think the rchn guys talked about it recently. One of them had it happen too but caught it on the bench.
