Headspeed High

Post by DOG »

Hello. I'm running a 13T pinion on 6s/1800Kv motor and I like to know if there is another way to tone down the head speed beside changing to a 12T pinion? I have a DX6 TX if that will help any. Thanks for your help.

Hey KevG. My throttle curve start at Normal: 0/25/50/75/100 - Stunt1: straight 80 - Stunt2: straight 95 I'm also having problem with all the electronics get to hot and my flight time drop from 5 minutes to 3minutes. Will the AR7300BX eat up more time than the AR7200BX?

don't think it should, the main diff in the 7300bx was the input for HV servos direct off a 2s pack if I'm right.

throttle seems good what blades are you running.

If you are talking about your Gaui X3, then that combo calculates to. 4210RPM at 100% throttle with a full battery :o .
What % have you tried DOG?
If 80 and 95 are too high, then drop them down.
My headspeed for my warp is governed to 2800 and 3000rpm.
This is also, the recommended HS for the X3.

Thanks Lee. Yes it is the X3. I just placed an order yesterday and forgot to put in a 12T pinion. I have to wait for my next order. I will back them down and give it a shot. What are yours on your warp? If you don't mind me asking.

My Warp is governed by my Ikon, so my throttle curve will not be relevant.
Mine are set to 45%flat 65% flat and 100%, but the gov dictates the HS.
The 3 percentages, are only link switches.
I have 45% set to 2800, 65%, 100% are both set to 3000

You need to drop your pinion to at least 11 or 12. If your head speed is that high then I personally would go as low a 10.

I have found that on 3s I like the 2700 range.

Thanks guys. I drop stunt 1 to 75 and stunt 2 85. My question is now if my head speed set to low can my heli stall in the middle of a bank curve. That's what just happen. I flying around and so far so good. I decide to fly in a circle which was fine til i bank harder then I wanted too and the head speed went down and sounded like it cut out on me. After couple of hours fishing the heli out of the tree, I plug it all back in and it was like nothing happen. Can anyone explain what might of happen?

Are u using a gov? If not.. Use a "V" curve in ur idle up 1 & 2.. Assuming u have a linear pitch curve.. & u like the headapeed 75 gives u.. Make ur throttle curve 85-80-75-80-85... That's a 10pt spread.. If that feels like too much as u give collective, try 80-77-75-77-80.. Essentially a 5pt spread. Then use the same spread on ur idle up 2... 95-90-85-90-95 or 90-87-85-87-90. With this curve, as u give collective & load the head.. U will also be giving a little increase in throttle to keep ur desired headspeed. This was my setup with my first Align as the stock Align ESC's gov was crap. To be honest.. I've often thought about goin back to that set up on my 450... It worked very well.

Hey cml001, no I'm not running a gov. Thanks for those curve and I will try them AFTER I change out motors. That last flight my motor must of seize up on me. It's real hard to turn. I guess the electronics are running to hot . Motor first to go. Oh well....back to the drawing board.

Back up there a bit you said your flight times have gone from 5 minutes to 3 minutes. You made no changes that might cause it? If not, coupled with the 4000+ headspeed, then I'd say you are running things way too fast and are causing bearing problems. When you do the motor swap also check all the bearings involved in the power train. You may well have got something seizing resulting in over-current on the motor and esc, leading to the overheating and low flight times and the unexplained cutoff you experienced.

Yeah cml001, I need to put a smaller pinion on my motor. It's just funny how things change. I got the new DX6 "Loving It" and AR7300BX "Loving It also" but I figure that shouldn't change anything or would it. I'm confuse and my mine is spent

Neither of those would cause problems. If you're getting a new motor, consider getting a lower kv one. Or get a new pinion. I'd think 10tooth would be better than 11,if 12 is giving you that high of a headspeed.

Thank you Paul. I ordered a combo pack. 10/11/12 teeth. With 11T pinion i will be @ 3355 and 10T I will be @ 3050. 11T one is the one I will try first. Parallel board working great Paul, Thanks.

With the 11 on 3s 2250s I was getting 6 minute flight. On a 10 I am now getting. Solid 7 minute flight. That video I posted was around 6 minutes and left my "fuel" (pl6 talk) level at 63%. I could have flown for another minute or so.

As for bank turns with lower head speed,it should be fine. Just watch your angle of attack and throttle/collective management. I was starting to get into bank turns in my video.
