RC Helicopter + GPS and RTH???

Besides the DJI Naza-H controller, is there a way to put GPS and RTH on an RC helicopter?

Is the concept practical? Probably not but I've done several other non-practical projects, lol. Sometimes "unique" takes priority over practical.

I did post my curiosity on other groups, and such, and I have been met with the anticipated ridicule and bashing. It just doesn't faze me anymore.

So....if there IS something available, can you guys help me find it?

Although your head is on the right track, Graham, that's not quite what I'm looking for. That looks to me to be a 400 helicopter that comes with the GPS and RTH in it. I'm looking more for a flight controller, for an 800 class helicopter, that will basically do everything that my Inav quad will do. For example: flight modes, GPS, and RTH and might also allow a spare PWM for a cargo dropper.

After searching for a bit more, I found a Facebook Group for the Pixhawk fc with something called "The Cube." The people in there have been real quick to answer my questions and, in fact, one of the actual developers of The Cube is a Mod of that group. He tells me that The Cube will work for helicopters, planes, multirotors, VTOL, submarines, and rovers, all using a version of Ardupilot. For my purposes, I'll be looking into Arducopter. However, I've never used Ardu before, so I'm gonna build a ground vehicle first and install ArduRover so that I can get use to the set up and have a lot less chances of crashing, lol. In the meantime, I can work on the design of the frame for the 800 class helicopter while I work on the Rover build.

I've seen many of the Groups videos for Ardurover and Ardupilot. I've spoken to two people that have used Arducopter and it all sounds very very promising. I'm stoked to learn!

I was going to say adrupilot based stuff might fit the bill. Looks like you're already heading along those lines.

I thought Align had something years ago when the 3gx was still alive.

I know the Vbar Neo has an add on for multi-rotors but I don't know what it entails. I never really looked into it, thought about it but never did anything. I almost pulled the proverbial trigger on a 250 quad build. Ill look but I don't think the Neo has exactly that. Although it does have a gps add on.

Yeah , no, doesn't do it. It does however add a lost model feature that will publish to google earth.
