Spartan Vortex Vx1n

Post by KevG »

Well I got my hands on a Vx1n early this week, been playing with it and fitting it to my 250,

I hear a lot of people saying good things about the controller and I fancied trying it as it would help reducing the weight of my 250 and help with the disc loading as well,

I got the unit second hand and it was being sold with the datapod as well, and I would recommend the datapod to anyone, you unfortunately have to have one to set up or update the Vx1n unit, the Vx1e unit you can direct connect via USB to the computer and set it up that way, the Vx1n unit does not have a USB port,

You can print off the guide on the Spartan website for help with setup, Bert C has a great step by step video series on the setup, as does Bob O, it is then just a case of going through the setup section on the datapod step by step and tbh it was one of the easiest units to set up I have done,

I have not had a lot of time to try and get out and tbh Mother Nature has not co operated much either, so a couple of test hovers in the garage it has had to be,

I had a bit of overshoot on nose left piro's and the tail felt a little loose, after a bit of reading I found I had the ball to close on the servo horn, so moved that out and tinkered with a couple of settings and it's locked in now,

I also needed a slight raise in cyclic gain and that is solid, I thought the beastx was good in this department but the vortex is superb,

I have tried the newbie settings and the sport settings and find I want something in between,

Tuning is incredably simple just a quick pluging of the datapod and you can adjust everything, I still will be doing some adjustments when I get to the hall with the bird, but for now and initial setup I am more than happy,

I can now see why the guys with the Vx1e have been so happy,
