Blade size

Post by DOG »

Hey all. On my Gaui X3, I'm using 362mm blades on her and she floats like a feather in a vacuum tube :o . You can use from 316 to 360mm blades on this bird. If you use smaller blades like 316mm, will that increase the head speed enough that I have to adjust it? How will the smaller blades make the X3 handle?

The 315-335mm blades are meant for a 3S helicopter. The longer blades are meant for a 6S helicopter. Yes, you can use the smaller blades on a 6S heli but I imagine the performance would be poor and possibly tragic.

Thanks Derek. I do have 6s in her. I was just wondering since I don't have large blades for back "On order". I have plenty of 325mm for the Tarot 450. I thought murankar flew 325mm on his X3 but not sure if it's 3s or 6s?

Ive used 425/430 and 470 blades on the same bird (6s) and found the larger to be more floaty and softer, which i liked.

I cant see a problem with using the smaller blades with a 6s setup but there will be a completely different feel to the bird and your gains may need tweeking.

This becomes a disk loading thing. The smaller the blades the more disk loading you will have. Higher disk loading means the heli will feel heavy in the air, give more abrupt stops and generally more responsive. The lighter disk loading leads to more floaty feel ideal for big air flying. Tends to be less responsive. As for 6s vs 3s, well I had my x3 on 360s with 3s and it flew fine. If I would have went beyond sport flying I would have needed a 6s setup.

Thanks guys! I'm just going to wait for my 362mm comes in. I already have the 6s motor in it. No need to change things around. I do have my 450 to fly around.
