PDB went bad?

Hey there. I'm not a happy camper  I've been waiting for awhile now to get my Shuriken 180 flying. Finally I got new esc and motors from HobbyKing USA and they arrived yesterday. I just finished installing them and had it hooked up to clean flight. I wanted to make sure my receiver tab, modes and everything else was working properly. So as soon I plugged the battery in and POOF the magic smoke came out of one of the motors :(. Being new ESC and motors installed, can the PDB be bad? How can I test the PDB to see if that's the problem.

Make yourself one of these, might save some pain in the wallet.
Once the smoke gets out it's hard to prove who's fault it is, better to stop it from happening in the first place.

No worries Dog.
I always use one on my first hookup, it has saved me more than once. :D

I've never used one of those Smoke Stoppers. Stambo, you said that you always use one on your first hookup. If the wiring is all correct, does the light come on or does it come on when the wiring is incorrect. What happens when the wiring is correct and what happens when the wiring is incorrect?

Light comes on when something is shorted, saved me from smoking an ESC a while back, I had soldered the wires around the wrong way on it.
It may glow very dim when you hook up, more likely not at all, depends what you have connected, if it is bright, it just saved you some money. :D

That's interesting. So....the light comes on if something is wrong. the light doesn't come on if everything is good.

Pretty much it, don't try to run the motor with it on there though.
It's only for initial hookup.

Well, sure enough it's the board. I had the same problem with the same exact side of the board. That's why I ended up getting new motors and esc. I guess the 180 is no good since the PDB is part of the frame. Derek mention awhile back if something goes wrong with the PDB on this quad, it can't be fixed. I should be able to use the frame. All I have to do is install a new FC, new motors and ESC and a VTX. I can make room for the FC. The ESC and motors are already there and put the VTX in. Is this possible?

The PDB didn't go bad... it was owner mistake  Small amount of solder was touching where it wasn't suppose too :o I clean it up and now I have my 180 back :D

It's amazing how just a bit of solder can fouls things up. Do you remember when you couldn't get your 180 to work when you first got it? You ended up shipping it to me and I found a bit of solder on the boot jumpers and that was why it wouldn't load up. Glad we got that sorted!
