A brown out problem?

Post by DOG »

Hey there. Just when I think I got it...not really  I can get my 180 flying when SHE wants to  I have the quad working fine inside the house. When I go outside to try the quad out, nothing happens. The RX is showing bind and the TX too. I go back inside the house and try out the quad and she acts like everything is fine :? Take the quad outside and nothing. I put the quad onto betaflight configuration and the receiver tab shows my TX not moving the tabs. So i go through the whole setup again and finally TX is moving the bars in the right direction :) I unplug the usb cable from the quad. Then I'll try out the quad inside the house first. She works fine and then I go outside to try the quad outside and nothing. TX and RX on the quad are solid light. Once I finally get her going and I think it's all good, this is what happens after 30 seconds into the flight... pretty much all the time  https://youtu.be/sSkurTNkEvE I have checked for lose connection or bad soldering. I've checked power from the batt. to PDB and then esc to motors and can't fine what might be losing power or connection :? Any opinion we be appreciated and Thanks again! :)

Hey there Graham. Yes I did tried different batteries. The're old batteries and I do have new one's. They are charging now. I give the new battery a try and see what happens.

check to see if your sat is flashing after it happens,

did not hear re initialising tones so not a fc reboot, could be a load issue on the regulator

Hey there KevG. After this situation happens the rx sat does stays solid and the re initializing tones does replay again. It doesn't matter what battery I have in it, the quad does the same. I even switch sat rx from my 210, which works fine, to the 180. I though that fixed it last night because I hover and did some punch out with the quad for about 3 to 4 mins. and nothing. No twitch, lose connection or dropped out of the sky. Early this morning, I went ahead and tried the quad out but nothing. Bring the quad back in the house and the quad acts fine. Take it back outside and this time the quad worked but started to twitch and die again. Very strange since this quad was flying just fine. I haven't touch anything in betaflight or my Transmitter.

I thought about that Graham  I think those jammers are not cheap and what distance must you be to jammed? My neighbors are cheap. There not going to spend $500.00 on me no less on them selves  I could be wrong but how would I know if I'm being jammed? :?

I don't think it's a jammer because this morning I tried the quad out and it worked fine. I went to put my goggles on after this video test flight and nothing  https://youtu.be/r8aPuIzYYaQ

I cant believe that a hammer would be causing a problem. Does your helicopter have an issue? Does your 210 have an issue? Nah.....

Id like to suggest that you check the solder joints at the battery plug. That frame is quite tight and it can put a great bend and some great pressure/tension on those leads that go to the battery plug on the frame.

Id also like to suggest that you check all the wires on your batteries. Its possible that a wire has become loose enough that it's causing some voltage glitches....or something like that.

+1 on what Derek said. I had a similar issue with my Fossil as space is at a premium in them. Mine flew well for long enough, then dropped out of the sky for no reason. I could find nothing wrong, however i stripped it all to bits and started again. I wiggled the battery connection and saw power drop off, however could not see an issue with the soldering.

Great flips by the way:)

Do you have problems with any other models on the same TX?
I would be trying another RX, or at least do a range test on the current one and a few other models to see if there is a huge difference.

What's up Stambo. I haven't had problems with my helis working on this TX. As for range test, done deal and it's fine. I tried a different RX but the same thing happens. I'm not sure if that RX i tested is going bad too. I have these right now but there old and probably over used  http://graysonhobby.com/spektrum-divers ... eiver.html but after talking to Derek, he mention that these RX would be better then the one I have http://graysonhobby.com/spektrum-quad-r ... metry.html. I will order 2 for backup. My next choice is trying out another FC that I have. Can't hurt. I'm thinking that the FC is getting hot and it's freaking out before shutting down. I tried Graham suggestion and put a new battery on and the samething still happens. Solder joints, connection and no cramp or bend wires. All looks fine to me but looks can be deceiving :o I'll keep trying different ideas...even like Graham mention, start over with all new electronics :)

This is the part that I dont understand....

DOG has sent that 180 quad to me twice. I set it up and flew it...both times. Ive flown it LOS and FPV. It has a new fc, new esc's, new motors.....and it flew. I shipped the quad back to him and it never flies.

That's soooo true. I'm still working on the 180. One minute motors and esc working fine even reads 4 motors on bl Conf. Then next on betaflightI I calibrate the esc. Once done, I try out each motor individually. Sometime they all work some time 1 or 2 motors will spit and sputter. Just silly I tell you

Now after flying about 5 1/2 batteries all went well til the end of the flight on the 5th battery the quad started to twitch and dropped out of the sky. The 6th battery well I'm back to square one. The quad RX is solid orange but wont arm. Put the quad on betaflight and all seem fine til the RX tab this what betaflight was doing and I can't get out of it no matter what I try https://youtu.be/2tUoGXbqjXs

Hey all. A little update. Finally got the quad working right. I'm not sure what cause the problems to begin with but one thing was a bad rx antenna. I found a wire nicks right where the wire meets the rx connector. Second when I got my first quad after Derek recommended it :D I'm not sure if he remembers this but i had this problem in the beginning. I think Kevin explain this problem to me and Derek. Here's a video https://youtu.be/qzS7mDQUtOQ Something about Spektrum TX won't connects til it's ready too. So anyway... thanks all for your help :) Now I have to learn how to keep the quad out of the kiddies pool

A Little update. After the quad was done swimming, dried out, I flew her. About the 5th battery, I lost #4 motor. I guess #4 esc couldn't handle a little dip in the pool and went bad. I got my new esc recently and installed them on the 180 last night. This morning I did a test flight in LOS and all seem well. I had a 1800Mah battery instead of my usual 1350Mah so she was a little heavy, you will notice  but overall she flew well. Here's a short video https://youtu.be/Tov-IJAsj3c

Nice one DOG:) once you take a quad for a bath, sometimes wort putting it in a plastic bag and filling it with rice and leaving it for a week:)

I took your advice and put the escs and motors in the plastic bag and rice trick. Hope it works :) I will keep that in mind for future mishap  . Sometimes I just don't know where I might land. So far I've been rescue by the Tree Trimming guys  and lately Aquaman came to help the quad from the deep depth of the kiddie pool   What's next...only the quad knows
