250 Mini quad batteries 3S and 4S

Post by Derek »

I have a 3S 1350mah 30C pack, two 3S 1300mah 30C packs, and two 3S 1550mah 30/35C packs. I imagine for my first several flights, these packs will work very well. They all may even work really well for some good FPV flights, down the road. Perhaps I'll invest in some higher C rating packs when I begin to get better and start demanding more from the setup. Although...when I start demanding more, I imagine that's when the 4S packs will come into play. Here is where my question comes in...

What size 4S packs are you guys using on your 250 quads and what C rating are you running on your 4S packs?

I run 4s. i just matched the weight of my 3s 1300mah with 4s and went with that. It turns out that 4s 1000mah are the same size and weight as the 3s 1300mah that I have. So I don't loose any of the quads agility by doing it this way and the gains also work for both size of pack.

Hope this helps Derek.

I am still only using 3s, although I do need some new ones.
I won't be going 4s until I can afford to build another quad with better parts.
Just make sure if you are going 4s that all of your components can handle it although I would advise you stick with 3s until you gain a lot of experience as a more powerful quad can be more difficult to fly.

This sounds like very good advice. I'll stay with 3S and just have some fun. Without a doubt, I'm sure I'll be having a great time.

What kind of flight times should I be expecting? I have some 1300's and 1550's. I remember when I was doing the maiden hover and some simple flying around my yard, the fully charged battery really didn't seem to last real long. It was 12.3v when it was fully charged and after about 3 minutes of hovering around and such, it was already at 11.2v. I'm sure that my full time LED's are pulling some voltage, obviously, but I can't believe it's very much.

Perhaps my 1300's are getting tired. I haven't tried to fly my quad with the 1550's yet. I've been very busy working....but I am off this weekend and I'm going to try to do as much flying as possible. I was just curious about the flight times.

Myself and Graham get 6 minutes with 3s 1600's. They end up around 3.8v per cell.

I can live with that. I guess I'll be ordering a few more 1550's. Thanks!

With 3s 1300 I get about 5 mins floating around but that soon drops to 3.5 mins messing around fast and low.
And 4s I've not floated about with and run them for 3 mins of madness, all cells come down at around the 3.8 mark I've tested a couple of packs for 4 mins but I haven't charged them yet, I'll let you know the voltage per cell @ 4 mins.

Derek, I ordered some Glacier 3s 1800mah packs to try out along with LEDs and some other stuff... I'm a stickler for flight time... Less than 5minutes is a no go for me... Anyhow.. My quad is suppose to be here today.. Finally.. So I hope to have here airborne this weekend... I'll let u know how it turns out.

Sounds good, Guys! Thanks for that!

I wish you the best of luck, Clay! It's really windy here right now. I'm still debating about whether I should take the quad out for some tuning.

im a massive advocate for the less is more thing and packs are the main weight of the bird (fulcrum and CG). MORE POWER LESS WEIGHT LOL.

for your bird to perform best its mass should be positioned as close to its CG as possible.
