KISS 18amp esc

I haven't seen the 12amp KISS esc offered anywhere but in the UK. I did find the 18amp escs at getfpv.com.

I have to ask...once the wires are soldered to the esc pads, what is used to protect the soldered connections?

Get some heatshrink big enough to cover the whole ESC. :)
Don't worry too much about choosing between 12 and 18 amps.
You are probably better off with 18 anyway, they are still lighter than anyone elses 12a and it won't do any harm to run them.
They will only supply what the motor can use.
When I get some it will be with the intention of big motors and 4s so 18a will be my choice.
