A beautiful evenings flying

You fly it, you document it. Tell us the story of the day. As always, video is better!

A beautiful evenings flying

Post by Lee »

Just got back from a sweet sesh on the beach.
Flew the Warp360. Trying to get my thumbs working again after basically a 6 month break :)
Flew the Glider.
Flew the mini quad.
Did a range test on the mini quad to see when i lost video signal.
Surprise was, while the video was still perfect about 400m out, I lost radio signal :(
It was a cheapy ORX with a dodgy antenna. As i was only a couple of feet of the ground, the motors cut and it landed perfectly.
A guy walking his dog picked it up and met me half way back :)
Great fun :)

Fun fun fun! Soo.. 400 meters is... Bout a quarter mile... Bout the same distance I lost signal with a Spektrum sat... Wasn't anyone walking to meet me with mine... I think mine must be in a tree... One of the reasons I want GPS & a buzzer on my next quad.

400m isn't that far really. Do you think the dodgy antenna has reduced the range?

I have a beeper on all of my quads.
I always try and be aware of where I am when flying FPV as I would hate to lose my mini.
When I have had trouble finding it in the past the Taranis telemetry has helped me get close and the beeper gets me there.
I can't afford to build another at the moment.
