Unlucky with the Agile, that's for sure. The 500 on the other hand, that's just dumb thumbing :D

I have spent about $20 on crashes so far this year, all on props and zip ties. :)
No pain, no gain, my friend :D

Hope that's the crashing out your system for a while Marius!
Me too. Thanks :D
pvolcko wrote:I've been having issues with Ikon motor gov and spool ups too. My issue is the other way, though. It slowly ramps up to like 50% RPM and then sits there until I start fiddling with the collective or switch around on the flight mode. Very strange.

So what happened? Did it just jump straight to full power on spool up?
Yes, it just went FULL throttle in an instant... Stupid Ikon. I believe the governor bailout feature is the culprit; somehow the Ikon gov believes it's already started the motor, then when I flick TH off - it goes into bail out mode - FULL throttle please! Noooooooooo...

I have also encountered the issue you are referring to, the gov not coming up to speed on it's own - although this is a pretty random occurrence.

You are right, I can't do those things but there are quads out there that can in the right hands. :)
I get bored flying LOS as I get out of range too easily, eyesight range that is. :)
My focus now is more on FPV and proximity flying.

Know I haven't been very active on the forum lately. But family life, ps4, netflix, work and crappy weather has taken it's toll on flight time and forum time. Not that I haven't been flying, because I have. Every chance I get, I go out flying.

And when I say flying, I don't mean the Agile, because that stupid *#%$* is causing a lot of brain hurt this season. After finally being able to afford the repairs from last seasons crash, I got to fly it ONCE before the moronic Ikon governor killed my one way bearing. The one way bearing on the Agile is a pretty costly repair, so the poor Agile have been hanging on the wall nearly all the season so far. :(

The t-rex 500 on the other hand have seen a lot of air time, maybe about 50+ packs this year. Though not much progress in the learning department, despite a respectable amount of flight time. I'm just not "in the zone". It's mostly due to the bad weather and the fact the Agile is hanging on the wall instead of in the air...

Anyways. I'll soon replace the Agile with a new toy, so you can expect a new build thread soon. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Agile, but a combination of evil Ikon gov, too many dumb thumbs and long waits on spare parts has made me associate my Agile with some sort of resentment.

After using the Ikon gov for about a year, I have now decided it's not reliable enough. I've had just too many damn hot starts with that feature, so I'll now be going back to ESC gov.

Also I went out flying last night with the rex, and that went something like this :D

Nah. Tech fail. The one way bearing gave out when I flicked it over in IU1, so I lost the tail. Crashed uncontrollably in the field. Bent boom, totaled blades, main gear shredded, one servo and maybe the TT. The one way have been slipping occasionally this season, so I knew it would fail sooner or later. The problem is too much gap between throttle curves on Normal vs IU1.

I'm sorry to hear about the damaged heli, Marius! I am curious though...how would I be able to tell if the one way bearing is slipping?

The tail will give out during hard tail work, like ccw funnels or moves where a sudden increase in torque is applied on the tail.

But, turned out upon closer inspection that the one way did not cause the crash after all. It was the front tt bearings which had failed. They were old any heavily used, so this is my own fault for being sloppy with maintanence...

Well, new parts are on their way.

What's the issue with the ikon gov? Hot starts?

I've kind of been having the opposite problem. Way too slow to ramp up and often it gets stuck just short of full spin up until I give it some positive collective. Same thing happens on auto-rotation recovery. Spins up short of normal speed, just barely enough to hold hover.

OK. Thank you for taking the time to comment on my question. The reason that I asked was because the tail on my Align 500 will completely blow out when I am inverted and try to climb out. I consider myself very lucky to have gotten the helicopter back under control and to the ground safely. It pretty much sounds like what you were describing above. Perhaps the OWB is going out or has given up already on my helicopter. It is the original OWB....that being 3.5 years old. The tail is belt drive but all the bearings on the helicopter are either new or they look fine. I'll replace the OWB and see what happens.

Noticing the same thing Paul. Thought it was the update I did.. Now I can't tell for sure until I reset the controller & get a tail fin.

The damn thing "hot starts" on me, meaning it will goo full throttle off the bat. Usually it just cracks the roots on my blades, but this last time it broke the costly OWB on the Agile. I've had these hot starts occur maybe three times in total - it's really annoying!! As you know, 700 blades ain't cheap

I suspect it got something to do with the gov bailout. So when I connect the rx pack, maybe I make a small connection before I plug it all the way in, this telling the Ikon that there has been a drop in throttle signal for a short amount of time, setting it in bailout mode.

At least that's the theory. I've been contemplating putting in a switch...

On this date, exactly three years ago today, I posted this on my facebook wall:

Three years since I started the hobby for real with my first CP heli, the Align T-rex 450 PRO. What a great hobby it turned out to be :)

btw: The status reads (in Norwegian): "Now it's serious!"
