Me and MY Delta Ray...

Though I found myself WAY too calm while flying Derek's Delta Ray, I find flying my OWN Delta Ray even more relaxing as I no longer am concerned about crashing something that is not mine...unless, of course, I cause a collision mid-air. Derek and I came close enough on our first two plane flight that it did get our attention. Please enjoy my 2nd flight on my Delta Ray...especially the landing.

Actually the wires are plenty far away to fly this plane. The camera view seems to show the wires a lot closer than they really are. The basketball poles, parking lot light pole, and several trees are constant obstacles but we've done a good job of avoiding them, mostly. I've been flying from that spot for a bit over a year and there have only been two tree collisions. Dad's first flight was really quite good and the landing was bumpy, bouncy, bouncy, bumpy, lol...but we had a discussion about "flaring" and then he pulled this landing off will absolute ease. It was awesome!!!

Today was gorgeous....especially considering it's November. Usually around this time of year, it's much cooler and the winds begin to howl. Hopefully Mother Nature and Jack Frost will allow us a few more days of flying.

Thanks guys. It is fun but if Derek were not into this stuff I'd still be land and water bound as I never had much luck back in the 60's and 70's. Though it is a different world for RC flying now. This plane practically flies itself...if you want it to. Perfect for me but can perform the stunts Derek is a master of. And Derek is patient with me.

That being said, I took my ever supportive, understanding and patient wife out the other day for her first time seeing me fly. It was a bit windier than the day Derek and I were out but I got it in the air fine and flew about. My wife does not like chasing it about with the camera so we only took about 20 stills that day. She says they move too fast. LOL She enjoys just to stand back and watch more than anything. Unfortunately I did "lose" it and had a rough landing, much to my disappointment and embarrassment. Minor damage but we were done for the day until I could glue the front landing gear and one prop spinner back on. I went out the next day and had three good flights...and landings...alone. Enjoy these few shots.

I think she did a GREAT job with the camera and am sure she will try again. Hopefully I won't crash again soon in front of her. Derek will tell you that she takes any crash harder than the owner of the plane.
