Its a cool little box of tricks.
My advice would be to not put it on, until you are happy flying the quad LOS and FPV.
Its an unwanted distraction when learning.
You want as little as possible to distract you from learning to fly your quad.

And I thought it would assist giving me altitude and whether quad was level or not... Maybe your right though Lee, if I'm looking at the numbers I may miss where I'm going.... I'll fit it and use my gyro switch to turn it on/off...

That's my next gadget Dan, GPS with RTH...lol, problem there of course on a 250 is isolating the gps unit from all the RF interference... Some Mumetal will do the trick...

Tony altitude is not accurate enough on most cheap systems to be useful at low levels.
The best thing to do is just put on the goggles in an open field and fly.
Battery after battery after battery.
The low level stuff comes with experience.
Look at how Dan is progressing and take another look through his flight log.

As far as altitude goes, high enough not to hit stuff then slowly get lower as your experience allows.
You start to get the idea from the size of stuff/people on the ground.
As they say at Nike, "Just Do It". :)
It's a bit scary at first but "Just Do It". :)

I have an OSD on my larger quad and it's great but I would not think of putting one on my Mini because of the distraction of looking at numbers and the weight penalty.
Minis have a short enough flight time as it is without adding weight to shorten it even more.
If you want to add all the "gadgets" look at a larger quad to fit it all on.
As I said in an earlier post, I have removed the KK2 and stuck a Naze32 on my larger quad and it flies great.
I just need to get rid of some vibrations so I can start posting some video from it.

Go on Tony.
Grow some, get out there and "Just Do It". :)

gives you flight data whilst your flying, its an overlay on top of your current camera view. has a variety of parameters which you can enable or disable. like altitude, artificial horizon, battery level, etc etc

When I was a Paraglider pilot, there was an instrument called a Vario.
This would give you audio and visual data to tell you whether you were in a thermal or not.
Most people bought them as soon as they started flying.
What ends up happening, is they spend the whole flight watching this gadget, waiting for it to tell them whats happening.
They loose the ability to feel what happening and rely on tech to fly.

I on the other hand didn't get one (couldn't afford one)
I flew for a year by feel alone. By then end of the year, I was sponsored, flying in the British team, and in the top ten pilots in the UK.
Then I got a Vario, which just solidified the feelings I got from the glider.

All this is to say, Learn to fly first before relying on gadgets. :D

Ok Lee, you have convinced me not to use the OSD. :D  yes Graham, use the force. It will be the force of the wind if I go out today. Mind you when I was in tarifa flying on the beach it was great fun flying in those winds.. One morning I was flying in pretty strong wind having loads of fun , then these 2 rotwielder dogs came and were jumping up at the quad. I couldn't land it till the guy came and got hold of them..eeee such fun... :D :D :D

I might still have that video....hmmmm I'll look
