pvolcko wrote:I'll keep an eye on it. Spikes into 180 territory don't worry me much as long as the temperature remains reasonable. Worst case I end up selling the motor and switch up to a different motor. I want to stay 6S since I have batteries already. If I switch to 16S I'd end up having to buy new smaller capacity batteries to get them to fit.

And I have an Edge 160HV on hand if needed, but I doubt it will fit into the esc tray on the 570.

Do you know how much pitch you were running there? More than anything else I've found that to be the usual cause of crazy current spiking. I was pulling 150 plus on my Gob 500 at one point on rainbows due to having 16 degrees of pitch by accident. :)
I always run 12 degrees collective 8 degrees cyclic. I wasn't really pushing the thing that hard couple tick tocks. The ESC came down with over current beeps. That motor is a beast of a motor. For 12S I run two 3200mAh batteries and get 6:30 hard 3D flight time. I'm not suggesting you go 12S just giving you a heads up of what to look out for. I haven't had much luck with Castle ESCs handling over current gracefully I've had them shut down on me a few times. Flight time also dropped to about 4:10

I like to run a pretty high head speed 2500-2600 rpms and the trex 550 is a heavy pig so your mileage may vary.

Paul, can you do me a favour and check the alignment of the boom.
Is it totally flat on the top surface from frame end to tail box?
The bottom surface has a weird curve in it. Just looks odd, but i'm sure its correct.
Cheers mate.

You want me to actually open the box?

I was just going to let it sit on the floor for a few weeks to age. :)

I'll take a look tonight.

Wow. I'll probably stay in the 2000-2400 range. Which should help a bit. I'll definitely be looking out for this since I've run into issues before with over current (both real and false readings). I'll also see if the 160A ESC will fit in there. If it does then I'll be using it reagardless.

Well... My 550.. I use 3 idle ups.. 2000, 2250, & 2450... 2250 is fine and u can do pretty much anything and it's not too aggressive... At 2450.. She's pretty damn spunky... Ur gonna be a little larger in the disc.. With a very strong motor.. I'd try it at around 2300-2400 top end and see what she does... Keep us posted on ur decision.. Where are the build photos? Looks like u have all u need to begin!

I'm fighting a cold right now. Once I recover a bit I'll start in on it, or the Edge 540 build.

I'd have to check my settings on the 550X. I think I run 2000-2200-2400. Each model is different, will play around with it when I get this new one up for some maiden and tuning.

The frame end, top, (where the nylon bolts go through) is flat. If you press that down the tail box end lift slightly. I propped it up with a straw and it was just about the perfect fit for the gap created.

Here's two pics with the boom laid flat to the counter top. One show the point of highest curve. The other shows how the angles look at the frame end where it touches the counter.

Spring's a comin'! Build will happen soon. Got the Gob 500 on the bench now for repair work. Will get that cleared out mid week and then start in on the Gob 570. Hopefully have it wrapped up and ready for maiden next week.

Hopefully this long cold snowy winter is coming to an end here in the NE USA. WE got a blast of snow and cold today, but supposed to go up to 50ish degrees tomorrow. Then another 2-4 inches of snow Tuesday. Spring is trying.

Getting close to this build. Gob500 is getting repaired finally. Had to wait for a set of screws for the kde upgrade battery tray and bottom frame that were missed in packing. Have some links and horns to replace and then reassembly and setup.

Also got the trex 700 setup and ready to go. Almost. Did a check of the head setup and found the swash isn't level (off by a degree on one side). It was my first attempt using the soco tool and apparently I screwed up along the way. 2 hours wasted. I'll try it once more but if no dice another time then it's going on the auction block. I have never had this issue using my normal method of a swash levelling tool and a manual or digital pitch gauge.

that Soco sounds like a waste of time Paul. dont think you can beat manually setting up the swash. at least you then know for sure its correct. looking forward to some heli flights soon then..

I heard some people rave about them. Maybe it is a matter of not being familiar enough with the process, but it just seems prone to error. Like I said, one more shot with it and then out if I don't get good results the second time.
