Started to machine one of the arms tonight. I ended up doing most of it by hand with the dremel.

ive had issues with the drill press, I think the problem is that the drill isnt fast enough when trying to machine the carbon. i tryed it with a diamond coated bit and an abrasive bit and both were rubbish, but one they were in the dermel it was a different story.

heres the pictures if the first arm, im pretty happy with it, but after watching a couple of videos i do think the way forward is a dermel press

ive watched a couple of videos where a dremel and its press were used to cut carbon sheet.

this is a good one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VwLm982mx0

ive also been given a flip32 (thanks madphil) and ordered the motors (Sunnysky X2212-9 1400KV) http://www.buddyrc.com/power-system/mot ... views.html and speedy's (Afro ESC 30Amp OPTO Multi-rotor Motor Speed Controller) https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/sto ... duct=76282.

ive seen pictures of tiny regulators (Tony and Derek) but need to ask some questions.

im going to see what one arm and fittings weighs all the bits are next ot me.

ha ha check this out, think i might have gone mental on the carbon fiber thicknesses

That boom looks really good. Nice and clean! A dremel press is probably the better way to go.

As for the regulator, it's funny how that works sometimes. You see someone else talking about something and a light bulb goes off in your head and you start thinking, "Hey...I could use something like that.", lol.

I'm kinda surprised that one boom, with the mounts weighs 100grams.

Those dremmel presses look good.
I'm thinking how to make a floating platform to go underneath, for cutting plates out.

A cross vice or a compound table are the best way to to have full control over the piece under the mill end. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/291361186279?nav=SEARCH
the cross vice is the cheaper option compound tables have a lot larger throws than the cross vice but are nearly triple the price

I like that one Dan!.. Don't know if I'd use it enough to warrant spending that much on it... But it's a kool "man" tool.

Im going to hold off on the mill for the time being as i think a workshop will be more practical than milling carbon in the kitchen, lol.

Im going to place an order on friday for a 8x6 shed thats going to be used as my workshop.

Today ive been working with adobe illustrator to try to get some cutting templates made up.

Left is the bottom and right is the top plate.

The small holes are 3mm the hole on the right plate at the bottom centre is 5mm for a fpv antenna pig tail and the larger holes are 8mm for some weight reduction, comments and thoughts are welcome as always.

Are you putting in a FPV cam mount, if so you will need some slits in the top and bottom plates,

im planning on using the same sort for camera i have on porket, so the left plate centre top hole (3mm) is where the camera screws down in its mount im going too use the mount and mod it s that i can use a servo to tilt the fpv cam in flight.

Ive knocked a couple of plates up (ABS) from the above design. Ive run out of time fr today so i will clean them up and fit them after work.
