Motor Temps, I Need A Number Please!

Post by cml001 »

Hi guys.. First off, I have ABSOLUTLY fell in love with this bird(N5C w OS-55HZ-R)! It is now summer time here in the south and its a sticky humid heat. Now I maidened this heli in the winter and since break in have had it tuned well I do believe. Now issues... 160-190 temps... Good power.. Well here we are a few months in... I'm guessing 6 to 9 gallons thru her so far. The last week or two she seems rich.. Like a little power has been lost.. Not much or bad, but I can tell a difference depending on the time of day... ie outside temperature... So I leaned the high needle 2 clicks... Punch out was stronger.. Mid stick at the top of punch gave the same smoke.. No excessive cloud.. Travel thru mid seems good so I left the mid needle as it was. Having done this she was good.. BUT... My engine temp now averages 205-225... Is this too hot? What average temp should I expect in the summer with heat in the 90s? What's too hot? What temp should I set my alarm to? Thanks in advance!

Lean'd her out 2 clicks on the high needle & 1 click on the mid needle.. Then gave her a bath... Test hover & flight... She's better.. How strange is that! I would have thought lean'n out would raise the temp... Back in the game!

That is one sweet looking bird Clay! Does she get more attention that the 550? I know mine does! My gasser has really helped my learning progress across the board.

Your tune will change with ambient temps. Winter/summer and altitude will change your tune. Good luck with the bird. I would really love to have a nitro, just not in the cards right now.

Yeah.. Takes about a year to get it all together myself... For both my big birds.. Ain't cheap.. But.. I buy a servo here & one there.. Do the "layaway" plan at my LHS for stuff he carries like ESCs & engines... Toss'm in a drawer till I get it all together at a point I can start a build... That's how I do it... Got a 700 in the works now.. Gonna be a long while till I'm close tho.

How's that gasser doin.. The videos u posted where good. Haven't heard more from u about her.. What r ur flight times? How's the power compair to nitro? Does it bog?... Gotta be easier on ur wallet... $30 a gallon for nitro didn't seem bad at first.. But I can put a gallon thru her in one trip to the field... Haven't really gauged it, uh.. Guess 8-10 flights per gallon.. I'll have to measure this on the next purchase of fuel.. I'm out at the moment.. Gonna re-up Thursday.. Decided to start buy'n by the case to save a little cash.
