the spares i have are a few clamps and a length of carbon tube

Looks like it's time to tilt that cam up a bit more, or rotate the arms a bit. :)
Im going to tilt the motors by 10° once im a bit happier with the pids.

I think ive found the problem with the GPS, i forgot to turn the mobius on for one of my flights this morning and what happens, the gps starts working.

Heres the footage for the DVR.

After a few hour research last night, the conclusion is that the Mobius generates enough rf interference to affect the gps sat lock. I've tested the mobius with the gps on the quad, phone and tablet and the results are the same for all the devices.
With the mobius off all devices get full 3d lock, it's the same with the mobius on standby. As soon as the mobius is recording all the tested devices loose gps signal.
to try to combat this I have covered the abs gps mount with aluminum tape and move the mount to the rear of the frame.
Static testing has gone well so far this morning full gps lock was held when the mobius was recording on the ground. Going to the field soon for some more testing and pid tuning

moving the GPS to the rear of the frame has worked i flew 3 packs this morning and the gps worked pretty well.

Heres the last flight of the morning

ive also tilted the motors 10° forwards for the next flight, i think you were right stambo and i should have done it before now.

lmao.....that is wicked fast!!! I loved that! Ha ha ha!

It's a shame that my new 290 quad turned out so heavy (at least I think it's heavy). I need to weigh it. I've got an extra set of motors, new 20amp Afro's, an extra Naze32 board, an extra breakout cable, and a bunch of props. I'm gonna try to draw up a smaller and much lighter new quad, lmao. Just need to order some new carbon fiber.

Great flying Dan! I love that machine!!!

Re: Bodge-copter Log. Fry up.

Post by danhampson »

Thanks guys.

The OSD is a minimosd board flashed with MWOSD.

I was a bit worried about the weight too, that was until i flew it.

Ive had some sort of electrical fault this evening causing a crash and blue smoke

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hVttt2jOLM

after the crash the flip32 wont power up, the ground from the VTX to the power rail has burned through the insulation.

i havent got a clue would have caused it i had already put 3 flights on it today. :? :?

Ive just ordered a new flip32+ and ive found a cable that i can use to rewire the vtx (it might work it might not). it looks like the cause was the OSD moving and the pins on the analog side made contact with the frame, i will have to check if the OSD is working too.

The weather report for tomorrow isn't good, so i may start the tear down in the morning.

the results of the tear down.

Minimosd board fried, lucky for me ive got a spare board, mavlink osd (known working). The wiring for the VTX also fried and of course the flip32 it looks like ive knocked the osd and the skicky pad insulating the osd came off

so far ive reloomed the vtx, installed the mavlink osd and tested the video up link using a broken flip32 everything is working fine so its the usual waiting game for the new flip32+

Wicked power there Dan.
Did you see Malc from RCTVUK?
He tried 6S on his. Gave it some stick, and all the props sheared off :D
I think carbon props are a must on something with that much pop. :)

wow, im not surprised the gemfan props sheared.

the props im flying at the moment are cut down HQ 8x4.5 ABS and ive also got some HQ 7x4.5 carbon composite. And ive just had a moment of madness and ordered a set of HQ 10x6 carbon composite tri blades to cut down.

My new flip32+ arrived today, flashed it, restored to last backup and installed on the quad. And ive found another casualty from the crash, motor 3 has lightly smoked windings and doesnt spin up, alll the other motors spin up fine. ive ordered a replacement that should be here in about a week :(

The learning curve has been quite steep with this build due to addition of the osd and gps mainly but it's been great fun and it has got me thinking about doing another scratch build maybe something a bit bigger.
