Looks fun paul. Does anyone else make that size 3d prop for the quad, they shouldn't be breaking that easily it's not like you being really hard on the quad.

The ones breaking were v1 neo props from encore rc (distributor for invertix). The invertix is 3s stock. This was upgraded to 4s. I think the extra stress on the props was enough to cause issues. I've got v2 neo props on there now and no issues so far.

No vids this time, but a report.

Had a great evening of flying at the club. Got in 7 flights. 2 on goblin 500 and 5 on the 550x. 3 flights of mostly backwards flying (circles and figure 8s). Lots of tic-tocs and rainbows (elevator mostly, side on, rotor on, tail down and up). Some tail down and tail up upright funnels. Auto-rotations. Tail down and up falling aileron rolls. Tumbles. And some attempts at wall stops.

I'll try to get video next time. :-)

Been testing the new Goblin 700 KSE, check it out in this thread: http://www.rc-hangout.com/forum/viewtop ... 123&t=1164

Went to the field yesterday for a while. Rain most of the day, but a break in the clouds came around 4pm so was able to get some flying in and hung out with the few brave ones at the club. :)

One flight on the KSE, but after landing noticed a lot of slop in the main shaft. Retaining collar or gear or something moved. Need to tighten things down better. Will also be tightening up the tail belt to see if I can get rid of some noises.

Also flew the 550X got a couple flights in on that, but botched an auto-rotation landing. Snagged the tail fin and ended up breaking it off and cracked up a set of tail blades. No other damage from what I can tell.

Re: Paul's Flight Log

Post by pvolcko »

Got in a good morning and early afternoon of flying today. About 4 flights on the Goblin 500. Flight 3 was great. Felt good, controlled, exciting. Didn't do much backward flying today, was more into controlled flips, rolls, half piro flips, loops upright and inverted, wall stops, falling aileron rolls, etc. Did a very nice set of right to left traveling elevator flips and then came back left to right doing small forward inverted loops (looked like a corkscrew). And did a set of 5 slow very well controlled half piro flips without breaks, moving a bit to compensate for wind drift.

5 or more flights on the Visionaire. Still struggling with hovering. Knife edge attempts were a bit ugly too, in part due to some trim problems. I've developed some trim issues over the last couple of outings so I adjusted some linkages. Still need to work on one of the aileron linkages. And maybe back off a half round of elevator adjustment. After the adjustments it was much easier to keep the knife edge tracking properly. Going to start looking up names and instructions on some maneuvers so I'm not just flying and flipping around aimlessly. :)

And took the invertix out today too. Got three flights in on that. Did some backward flying with it. A lot of work on flips, rolls, rainbows, inverted flying, etc. 4S is the only way to go on these things. Stock 3S just doesn't cut it. :)

Hot day. Mid to high 80's with high humidity and mostly clear skies. Motors and packs were coming down quite warm. I ended up backing all my timers off 30 seconds or so, and even that wasn't enough on some flights. Never hit LVC, but packs came down at or just under 3.7v/cell sometimes. I usually aim for 3.8-3.85v/cell. Don't know if it was the heat, my flying or some combination of the two.

What kind of flight times are you getting Paul?

Since I started flipping and rolling and just flying whatever I feel my flight times (helis and planes) are all under 5 minutes.

Generally come in at 3.85 volts but batteries are hot most of the time.

When I started 7 minutes was typical, LOL.

We're probably even still, Ken. I haven't added much to my trick bag. More like I'm honing abilities on existing moves. Only addition is airplane stuff and the backwards flying. Sport flying the airplane came pretty easy, but some of the 3D stuff, like hovering, is tricky. Mad props to people that can manage it a couple inches off the ground with a 72" behemoth. :) And the backwards flying is still very much beginner stages.

I like the aimless flying too, but I have a goal of progression this season and on the airplane front I don't know the first thing about the names of maneuvers. People keep dropping names of things while talking at the club and I don't know what they're talking about. Need to get familiar enough to understand and start matching up moves to what they're called. Hopefully learn how to do some of them too. Flat spin I know (and looks very cool, I attempted to get into it a couple times but no dice). Loops, rolls. Hover, Harrier, knife edge. Knew half cuban 8's from heli flying. That's about it.

On the visionaire I had been getting 4m30s flight times on a 2200mah pack. Today I bumped back to 4m even and was still coming down over discharged (at least more than I aim for). I was doing a lot of high speed knife edge, hovering attempts, and other motor intensive stuff. But I think the overall temperature and the lack of normal cooling effect while in flight as a result was leading to some higher pack temps which was messing with things.

On the helis it varies. Gob 500 running 6S 5000mah packs gets around 5m usually. I was bringing it in at 4:30 today and was still going a bit past target discharge. Didn't fly others today but in general I get 4:30 with the 550X (4:00 on hot days or hard flights), 5:30 with the Gob 700, 5:00 with the Gob 700 KSE (3 blade head, more powerful setup, and still taking it easy, I expect I'll end up at 4-4:30 on that one once I start hammering on it), and 5:30 with the Trex 700. Light sport flying, running low headspeeds, and just working on orientations or backwards flight I can extend the times by a minute or so, usually.

Guess that sounds pretty even. I'm lucky to get much time to fly being gone so much. I'm having fun and that's what I signed up for. well and the mechanical, electrical build and repair aspect.

Funny my girl friend just watch both of my recent videos and she's like honey your videos are kind of boring. You do the same things all the time. she was worried I would be offended. I post my flights, good, bad, indifferent and the ugly as well. Maybe someday I'll put more effort into editing but I like to watch the flight afterwards it's become part of the experience for me and not taking video just seems such a waste especially when you push yourself past your personal best even if it's only one move or trick.

Keep up the good work Paul!

I'm heading back to Philly!!

Just got one of the chillers running and I had to write the program to sequence the cooling towers. Have about 14 buildings getting cooling which is just under half of the entire facility.

Goblin 700 KSE flight from today. Nothing special. Still working out cyclic rates and settings. Still haven't cut the canopy for the motor yet.
